I like mining for the sake of mining

When I say, I'm in it for the mining itself, I mean it. I'd give away all the ore I get for free if I knew I was pretty much at the pinnacle of mining progression. I've got a Prospect and the most expensive mining lasers. Is there any thing else I can spend my ISK on to help me mine that's strictly better? Are there any consumables or addons I can get that boost my mining capabilities?

I ask just because ORE's ship guide is so much smaller than everyone else's that it seems like it's supposed to be easy to reach full mining capacity.

Well, a barge is going to outmine your prospect. The prospect can mine, but it's more purpose-built as a gas harvester.

If you just want to spend too much money on mining equipment, an 'Aoede' Mining Laser Upgrade runs about 900 million. Oh, don't forget implants, as well. A Highwall 1005 and a Michi's Excavation Augmentor will take -forever- to pay for themselves. ;)

If you get a barge, you can get yourself some Harvester mining drones. Those are old and rare and will make you very sad when you accidentally leave them in a belt.

And, of course, you're going to want an alt in a sieged Rorqual boosting for you.

Like everything in Eve there is no progression in mining ships and no clear path. Each ship has it's purpose and which one is "better" depends upon what it is that you are trying to do.

When you are talking about "mining capabilities" what specifically are you talking about? isk / hour? m3 / hour? m3 / load? isk / load? cycle time? ore value? mining efficiency?.

If you want to be the most efficient at mining you need to have maximum up time on your lazors. In high sec you can easily loose 20% or more of potential ore based on lazor up time only just by mining small rocks that are partial cycles and not cutting off the cycle exactly accurately. That is not to mention the lazor down time from having to haul your load back to station.

If you would like maximum yield you need to be in null sec sitting on very large roids with full boosts and dedicated haulers. You can probably double your m3 / hour that way.

There are related but different skills that people often equate:

* Mining
* Reprocessing
* Mining Boosting
* Hauling
* Trading (selling)

After those, there really isn't anything else.

I recommend branching into drones, this is related to mining, and leads down a long path that can include many different drone boats using Gallente, Caldari, and Amarr ship skills.

My "mining-only" character went down the path into drone specialist, with a secondary goal of being a medium-hull specialist (and a tertiary goal of avoiding capitals). Currently working on turrets after 6 years. Also worth noting, has never remapped nor injected skillpoints.

Don't stop with ISK. Spend real money. Think multiple accounts. Think booster alt in a Rorqual. Create your own mining fleet, strip the asteroid belts bare in minutes. Think BIG.

Maximum mining is a multi-account activity. Either you + friends, or you + you + you + you + you.

My choice of pronouns is based on your avatar. Even if I know what is behind the avatar.

Never went below 2 mining character/Alts. A miner/PvP, and a miner/covert ops.

What happened to Eve's old motto; Here's a spaceship. Fuck you.

I haven't tried fitting a Prospect [I did try a Venture], though I can recommend Modulated Deep Core Miner II.

Unlike the strip version, it is more effective than the other modules, and can be used with mining crystals.
