Idea for changes to Drone Control Units for citadel release.

Change the name from Drone Control Units to Drone Command Units (or Links). The tl;dr is to turn them into command links for your fighter squadrons that only affect YOUR fighters, give each carrier the ability to fit 2 links (can only fit more with the use of command processors), each race has a 100% bonus (double strength) to their respective link type.


(Each bonus is a separate link, 2 links for each type)

Offense - 100% bonus to link strength on Gallente Carriers
12.5% Increase in damage of fighter’s primary weapon
5% Reduction in cooldown time of fighter’s special abilities

Defense -100% bonus to link strength on Amarr Carriers
12.5% Increase resistances of shield, armor and hull
5% reduction in signature radius of fighters

Electronic - 100% bonus to link strength on Caldari Carriers
12.5% increase in range of electronic warfare abilities
5% Increase in strength of electronic warfare abilities

Navigation - 100% bonus to link strength on Minmatarr Carriers
12.5% Increase in max speed of fighters
5% reduction in cooldown time of propulsion abilities on fighters.

from the redit post it looks like they will be used to affect things like rearming and repair time

problem i see with your this idea is it will make one carrier stand out far above the rest mainly than and nyx with little reason to fly the otthers

The Amarr one provide resist and sig radius reduction the fighters only right?

That's not necessarily true.

For instance, given the massively expanding range of carrier combat, I would bet that the minmatar speed bonus described would be quite powerful, particularly if running light fighters to destroy enemy squadrons.

DPS is sexy but it doesn't necessarily mean it would be the best.

Officially fozzie has said in the slack logs he is open to suggestions.

I would probably prefer to see drone controls provide just a broader range of less powerful bonuses with no stacking penalties.

Eg things like 3% speed each 3% lower sig +1% damage , 2% lower cooldown on specials.

If you fit a rack of 5 the bonuses are considerable but then of course you have no utility outside of your fighters.

If the bonus to offensive drone command units would take the place the drone damage bonus then the nyx would have the same 25% damage bonus, the only change would be the special ability cooldown reduction. But remember that any other carrier would be able to utilize the offensive drone command units as well, albeit with less effectiveness. Not only that but each one has a defined special power in this line up, Gallente has strong damage, Amarr has strong staying power with their fighters, Caldari has powerful EWAR, and Minmatarr can deploy drones faster to anywhere on the battlefield (Making it very good at intercepting enemy fighters).
