Arrow keys should be used for editing not window navigation

Currently using the arrow keys causes the active window to change. It would be better if TAB / Shift-TAB were used to do Window navigation and the arrow keys were used for editing. So, for example, if a player is editing the string in a search box, like market search or places search the arrow key should allow navigation within the string. That is the normal behavior of most applications.

I would add that currently the only way to move the cursor in an editing window is with the mouse. In other words, lets say you have the search string "Guurista" and you want to delete the extra "u" that you entered by mistake. You have to carefully aim with the mouse and click perfectly to get the cursor right after the extra "u" and then hit Backspace. Obviously not a good thing. Pretty much every editor on the planet allows the user to move the cursor with the arrow keys, Unix, Windows, Mac, every environment: arrow keys move cursor.

For example, lets take a simple example from circa 1980: DOS. Open up a console window on any PC ever made. Type "abcde", now hit the left arrow key. What happens? The cursor moves left. Brilliant.

NOTE: the strange behavior only occurs when the player is in space. In a station, the arrow keys work normally for editing. Based on this, maybe the problem should be classified as a bug rather than a new feature.

This isnt a normal application, example EVE doesn't close with ALT+F4 P

People got used that by now, a change will not "Fix" things.

My client acts exactly as you describe and would expect. Does your keyboard have any function keys on it that may be altering the function of the arrow keys?

If brute force isn't working, you're just not using enough.

Please Note: Any advice given comes with the caveat that nothing will be suitable for every situation.

It only does it when you are in space. I will update my post with that information.

If you are in a station, then the arrow keys work normally.

Was not able to duplicate your issue, either docked or in space, nor have I ever had a similar issue in 11 years playing. Suggest the problem is local, not a game issue.

I expect the issue is between the chair and the keyboard.

CCP should add more NPC 0.0 space to open it up and liven things up: the Stepping Stones project.

Ok, maybe this is a bug of some kind. I did carefully check the program settings and shortcuts and did not find any arrow key use in those, but I will double check.

Filing a bug report is probably a better bet.
