Complex Ishtar, use rails or go all drone all the time?

Currently I have an armor-tanked Ishtar which uses 3x 250 rail guns which reach out to 30-40km with lead for killing cruisers in level 4-6 complexes. Typically I launch light drones on the frigates and work on the cruisers with the railguns. Sometimes I switch out antimatter and web frigates, then use the rail guns on them too.

Would I be better off getting rid of the rail guns and going for increased drone damage? The issue with going drone only is that different drones seem to be more effective for different NPCs. If I launch light drones first, then switch to mediums or heavies later, then the problem is that the frigates don't aggro all at once, so I am in a situation where I have mediums or heavies working on the cruisers and a bunch of newly-aggroed frigates orbiting me at 1500m doing a lot of damage. The frigates tend to filter in throughout the fight, so it seems useful to use light drones constantly because they take care of all the frigates as they come in.

Using mixed drone groups would seem to be inadvisable because I would be dividing my DPS.

If I get rid of the guns it frees up two slots, web and tracking computer, plus the highs. Will adding in drone mods into these slots make up for the lost railgun DPS?

how do you not know how to ishtar , i dont even fly the damn thing and i know how to ishtar.

sentry drones , drone damage amplifiers , omni directional tracking ... thingy or whatever they call em and
fit the tank in whatever space is left.
if you want a t2 ship for heavys go eos (which is badass btw)

At this point I am experimenting with the ship which I have only flown for less than one day.

I don't subscribe to the theory that there is only one way to fit and fly a ship correctly. I believe that in most cases there are multiple ways a ship can be fit to accomplish a given task.

I am trying to get some insights from people with experience with this particular ship concerning different fitting possibilities and options.

fair enough,
but why use an Ishtar if not for its ridiculous sentry drone bonus,
there are much much better hulls for light, medium and heavy drones.

I know a Gila- damn, I always mess this up Sad

What I meant is that I know a Gi- damnit, boat that is custom made for medium drones. Or you could just fly a real boat and learn to turrets and missiles.

Eve Minions is recruiting.

This is the law of ship progression!

Have you tried looking at the DPS numbers in EFT for different loadouts?

Yes, but a lot of it is dependent on damage application. There are falloff issues, drone size vs npc issues, tracking issues. I am kind of hoping someone with experience has some pointers.

A good alternative drone squad for an ishtar is one light II, 2 medium II's and 2 geckos. With maxed drone skills it will put out over 800 dps with 1 DDA and can pretty much one shot every ship under battleships in pve, throw a drone nav II and they will be too fast to hit by npc's too.

Fit a single gun to direct drone Argo but just focus on drone Argo.

My Corp mates have been sped tanking with 100mn ab. Works pretty well

If there are multiple options for a right way to make something happen with a ship, the task isn't pushing the limits of the ship.
