Hi everybody

i like the new symbuls that ccp have added but for me who is dislexic i have the problem of small lines and shapes of that size to be hard to see (not eye sight i have good eye sight) so i carnt really distinct between cruiser bc and frigs as there abit small for me so was hoping that maybe ccp could add a option to use old symbuls or new im not sure on the impact it might have on game servers but maybe if they make it just on the client end not on server wide as its just a simple picture (i hope)

thanks for trying to read this is why i do not post much haha XD

as a fellow dyslexic ... you picked oooooooooone hell of a game.

mind me asking which type of dyslexia you have?
i ask because personally i have found the newer ones to be a considerable improvement over the old once adjusted to,
that said im actually woefully unfamilliar with the spectrum beyond my own personal needs.

I suffer audio numerical and sequential something or other (if you ever see me type ingame you would believe it too) and iv had my own struggles with eve certainly so im not trying to be dismissive by saying "its fine for me" and ill apolagise if i come off that way

CCP seems to not want users to modify the UI much. I can understand that, to a point. But it would be nice if CCP could provide a few alternative sets so a player could choose the one most visually distinct or appealing.

On the subject of visual improvements to assist those with visual impairments, such as color blindness, I think it would be nice if player could choose textures instead of colors to identify friendlies/hostiles.
I.e. instead of red for "shoot it" use a background of horizontal dashes. Friendlies could be polka dots. Neutrals could be vertical stripes.

Someone mentioned he was blind but played eve. I think he meant "legally" blind, but still, playing eve was a challenge.

I personally hated the old system. I could never tell the difference between a BC or an Indy. I wish I could offer useful suggestions, but I'll just offer my support.

My choice of pronouns is based on your avatar. Even if I know what is behind the avatar.

You don't to me, but you're my hero for not being that way.

I agree in principle with this.

Why remove old functionality if you do not have to?

There is a certain tendency of "We spent a lot of money making this new thing, so now we are going to force you to use it." like a parent forcing a kid to wear the expensive new clothes they bought for them.

If a player wants to use the old symbols or whatever, let them.

Usually, it's because keeping the old stuff around doesn't pass the minus 100 points test. https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/magazine/dn167709.aspx

Don't you worry too much about that. While I have seen worse, this isn't even in the slightest ilegible. The important thing is that the starting letter and the last letter are at the right position and we can read it.

When young children start to read they haven't learned to read in words like older children have and at this point they don't spell words, the read words and an "auto-correct" kicks in.

Everything else can be shrug off by typing in a haste or on a cellphone with a small keyboard. The important thing is, you say something, which you have.

Eve Minions is recruiting.

This is the law of ship progression!

i was never informed which type it is as my school and college was not that great at dealing with these kind of things but i know from tests i have done that lines on graphs with many lines and some small symbols that have a few lines for some reason i carnt really follow the lines or properly see the image with the lines its like my brain just goes NOPE dont like them lines lol. i tend to add letters to words as well for example i add the letter e to words that do not have it on the end and b and d letters i tend to not know the difference when writting but can easly identify them next to each other and spelling and punctuation i have problems with

iv just added the type to the overview so i can tell lol

but i still think it would be nice for ccp to give this option to players that way people can choose what they want

interesting stuff there, im somewhat the opposite,
i find visual language and imagery to be much much easier to follow than anything else and apparently im better at discerning it quickly and accurately than most people i know
but i legitimately struggle to follow basic and short sequences of any type, particularly numerical ones.

i have no doubt you will find some similar aspect in which you can excel if you haven't already.
have you tried turning the ui scaling up?
you might find the shapes easier to recognize with the increase in clarity.

you actually do raise a good point though ,
eve is somewhat lacking in the accessibility department ,
for example i was shocked to find there are no colourblind options whatsoever.
