it is the most boring minigame in all of gaming and new players should be encouraged to experience a wider range of game play which is actually fun before they take up mining and quit out of boredom.

New players are not backbone of eve mining IMHO. But I quoted valid point - it is boring. Support this to make it more interactive.

Not sure if I'm posting this on the right forum but oh well....I was wondering if it would be worth to train for Orca on my main account and my other 2 accounts to train for procurers. I m planning to stay in high sec for now and just play industry until I get fully trained to try combat sites, I have bough recent BOPS and Indy seems to be fun in the meantime. Would any miners out there would suggest this? or what would be your opinion. What? What? What?
As it was said, plenty of friendly boosts available already. Most 0.5 systems with plenty of belts have a group you can leech into.

But as you said, you will mine only temporarily, as such, don't invest too many skills on it, nor dedicate characters to it. Even if you follow industry gameplay on some of your characters, the reality is that you really can't sensibly mine enough minerals to keep lines running, except deep sov null afk with rorqual boosts and a fleet of 20 miners...

Anyway, don't stick to HS too long. The future is out there in 0.0

TBH with 3 accounts, you'd probably harvest as much ore with 3 procurors instead of 2 plus the Orca. Your Orca will also be a gank target, and your procurors won't unless you go out of your away to antagonize gankers. An Orca does make a good, cheaper alternative to a freighter for transporting, although once I trained into a DST, I rarely use my Orca. A DST is almost gank proof in high sec (again, unless you go out of your way to make yourself a target) and can carry a lot of ore.

Training up your mining skills does zero to prep you for combat sites, with the exception of drones and some tank skills if you fly shield tanked ships (if you even bothered to train those skills for your miners). If you're going to actually play instead of watching Netflix and are primarily interested in PvE, you might as well skip mining, buy a MTU and jump into Security missions now. Procurors have small ore bays that fill up fast, and you'll lose a lot potential materials if you go AFK a lot, anyway. You'll get loyalty points to buy stuff you can use or sell, and make more ISK between bounties and mission rewards (especially with multiple ships steamrolling the sites). You also can either reprocess the loot drops for minerals, or sell them and buy the minerals.

You guys talk as if mining is all or nothing, or PvP is all or nothing. I currently, mine, do industry, research AND go running combat sites, I don't really do ship to ship PvP as it's not something I need to do to have fun yet. That's going to wait until I've got more experience under my belt.

You can be a dedicated PvP person though and still whip out the mining ship or industrial for something you or your corp need. You can even PvP in some mining ships, so it's all relative.

Ship to ship PvP is not the only thing to do in EVE that's fun.

My real life work schedule prohibits me from being on when most of my corp/ally mates are on. So I do all of my mining and industry stuff during the hours before down time, but on my days off when I can be on during "prime time"I go kill things with them, you can do any or all the things that you want to do...
