When you jump a hole, you get a beacon for the exit you can scan down in one run (if you bother) and associate it with a signature in that system. But I don't think it would break anything, if you get that association for free. Regarding the lost scan results on dock/jump, I'm with you, this is a PITA. Also you lose the progress on sigs, when you move probes, this is counter-intuitive as well. If you want more control over your ship's movement, manual pilot, the "autopilot" features are not meant to be perfect but limited.

I haven't read through the whole thread to see if this has been stated, but when you jump through a wormhole the location of the wormhole is saved in your in-game solar system map. Although you might not know what the signature is, you can always drop probes and center them on the point where it says wormhole (at a 0.5 AU range, for example) and instantly scan down the wormhole if you forgot to bookmark it in the first place.

Bookmarking all the things is one of those mistakes you only make once in w-space, then you learn your lesson :)

To further this a bit. As far as scanning tools - A programmer dude in my last corp took corp bm's with a ridiculous launch code format and threw it on a google doc (my idea!). He then kept improving the concept w/ the help of several members of the corp. It was a living growing thing. It was and is ours. Our '3rd party' program which is a private version of tripwire is our creation. It does what we want it to do the way we want it done. It's our scanning tool.

I'll be frank - some of the stuff ccp puts out (the new map for example) just feels horrible to me. One of my biggest Eve fears is that one day I'll log on and the new map will be the only map. CCP will have forced me to abandon a map I like and to use a new (my opinion) piece of junk. Don't get me wrong - the new map is probably super awesome and useful to some folks - that's great, but for me it's a cluttered mess w/ a lot of stuff I don't want or need blocking the view of things I want to see.

My point? What makes '3rd party' tools great is that we have much power in molding them to our specific needs. I wasn't fond of mapping my chains via some other wh groups program (paranoia and all) so we (OK, by we I mean this awesome Spanish-Canadian guy) made our own. If CCP locked up the market and forced us all to use a single version based on what I would call random input (random because it wasn't all mine Big smile) that would take away from the game.

Another point - (again not a coder dude) I think it's cool that CCP puts out some basic data and we do the coding work to make it both useful and our own. If it also gives them more time to do other things... Win Win.

Disclaimer: Don't misread my post as implying that Tripwire isn't secure. I know so little about what that sort of accusation means to ever make one.

An analogy for the location of that wh you just jumped through:

You drive down a back road for 50 miles and stop at a roadside pull off (jump through a wh). You call your mom (open the scanning window).

Your mom says "I don't know where you are" (scanning window has no data).
You say "I'm at a pull off.... I'm looking right at it" (You highlight the wh and even do show info to help the scan tool out)
Your mom says "Honey, you being able to see it where you're standing isn't doing anything for me" (scanning window just stoically blinks at you)
You say "MOM.... It's right here!"
Mom "I know sweety, and I love you, but you telling me 'I'm here' doesn't help me figure out where here is, only that you are somewhere" (scanning window just stoically blinks at you)

If you took away the overshoot thing you would eliminate bumping. That would be a disaster for you as the pro bumping / pro ganking crowd literally have 10 cases of whoopass in a can always on standby to unleash on anyone that attempts to interfere w/ that eve specific phenomenon. Just don't go there ShockedShockedShocked

You could easily have it be a toggled mode where the default is to behave like ships not made by drunken idiots.

THIS ^ is an interesting thought.......

For posting an idea into F&I: come up with idea, try and think how people could abuse this, try to fix your idea - loop the process until you can't see how it could be abused, then post to the forums to let us figure out how to abuse it..... If your idea can be abused, it [u]WILL[/u] be.

Approaching vs. Ramming. Default is to approach, but with a button next to the throttle max which you can use to switch on the fly.
