Tech I cruisers obsolete?

Last month I put up an old Thorax I had on contracts. The Thorax was fitted for missions and had a complement of Tech II modules. I had used it a lot back in 2006. At that time it was not a newbie ship at all. I had been playing for almost 2 years at the time I was flying it. It did not sell.

After playing some more recently I can see why that is. I have a friend who has just started playing and he is only 6 weeks old or so and he can already fly battlecruisers and is using a Drake. Why would he even bother with a Thorax?

Are Tech I cruisers completely obsolete now?

It didn't sell because you kept calling it 'Thor' in this thread Sad

T1 crusier are still a viable tool, what they are used for has changed significantly since 2006.

As usual for you there are many factors that you have not accounted for here, and then drawn a conclusion about the game as a whole based on your very limited experiences. Here are just a few things that come to mind.

You were asking to much for it.
Your fit was essentially useless in today's game and no one wanted to pay for stuff they could not / would not use.
You were tryiung to sell it in the wrong area of space.
And there is always the possibility that no one bought it because YOU were the one trying to sell it.

I use a T1 cruiser most of the time.

That's what I love about my fellow capuleers, they always respond quickly and I agree with them. Tech one cruisers are awesome!
People fly them a lot and they are very viable. The only ones that would need a little attention are the tech 1 logistics cruisers which have been overnerfed.

Really? When/how were they nerfed?

They are quite powerful especially in small gangs.

Triple Repped Vexors and vexors in general are really good cruisers. Thorax is a fun cheep ship. Moa can support a very strong tank. RLML Caracals are a staple hood of nullsec, Omens suck, but Mallers are good bait ships, Stabber kinda sucks from what I know about it, Ruptures are to bad.

So. Yeah.

No not really.

I think new players will more easily search the market instead of search the contracts, while older players will look more easily for tech2/3 ships depending on what is their gameplay...
(Also i dont think a new player will buy a ship with tech2 modules if he doesn't have the skills for the tech2 modules!)

Was an observation I made on the rep power of my toothbru- Osprey, sorry. I made a fit that you could fly solo like a scimitar just in affordable and the rep power even medium remote reps was good enough to keep battleships alive.

Now with the nerfed remote reps you cannot and they explode the second you look at them funny.

Jesus christ man, you think a ship is obselete just because you cannot sell it by contracting it? And you actually played since 2006?

I am baffled.

To some extend I agree with you but I still remember flying a blaster Moa for the first time when I started to train hybrid turrets with Crucible and going on my first solo roams in Querious and Delve.

T1 cruisers (T1 anything really) aren't obsolete so much as lacking a role to fill, especially now given the fact that you can skip right by the T1 and skill inject your way to T2. Why fly a Vexor when you can skill inject into an Ishtar? Other than room restrictions, there just isn't any point in flying the T1. There is nothing wrong with the T1 ships, there just happens to be a far better version available.

A second factor is the wealth of players these days. When I started playing, a faction battleship even in a mission hub was a rare unicorn. Today every month old newb is flying a billion isk bling barge. Undock a Rattlesnake and you'll bump three others off the station.

The only two factors that made the T1 ships viable.....cost and a skill (time) investment to get to T2.....have been removed from the game. The increased cost of T2 ships is well within the means of even casual PvE'ers after CCP has buffed high sec so much. And players used to have to weigh the investment of time into a T2 version of a ship versus everything else they need to get in the queue, but can now just slap an injector in and have V in a racial ship skill instantly.

It's not that T1 cruisers are obsolete, it's that being a newbie is obsolete. There is no more excuse for needing to fly anything but a T2/T3 whatever.
