Sound turns off & on & off & on & off & on.....

Using an Asrock Z77Xtreme4 with Realtek ALC899. Have undergone multiple installations over the past year and continue to have this issue where the sound turns on & off between every 3 and 10 seconds.
Nothing under the standard game audio settings seems to do anything.
When I login it usually takes between 5-30 minutes before it starts doing this.

Any clues?

Nevermind, the problem disappeared for me.
