Returning player with tech issue (Launcher). Flame me but help me.

So just reactivated, installed launcher.

Says 'Ready' at bottom, no indication of it doing anything else. It doesn't SEEM like it downloaded a whole game, but who knows, I have fast internets.

I press play and nothing happens. No notification like "wait for the download idiot", nothing happening at all.

Can someone please give any pointers?

Have you tried clicking on "Settings" in the lower left of the Launcher and enabling "Download everything" in the General tab?
