No!

Thank you for being the first quit post in this thread. Nice to know there are still random people that think they are so important that someone might give a **** whether they stay playing or not.

Instead of forcing all the mutual watch listing (which would basically be a nail in the coffin for the feature as not everyone wants a giant list of watch listed people even though they don't mind being listed themselves) why not cause adding someone to watch list to forcibly tick off the "notify player" box, then give the person being listed the notification along with an approve or disapprove option to allow themselves to be listed?

That would be helpful for us who never PvP but have AWOL friends/buddies and would like to know whether they're back, and also if we want to know when a friend/buddy logs in.

Hiding login status to enemies/reds/wartargets would make more sense, but hey, it's !!CCP!!. Never miss to mess with PvErs over what PvPrs did.

Basically this. I do use watch listing to be alerted of possible activity by known gate campers but that is something that I wouldn't be surprised if it was removed nor would I shed any tears over it. It's convenient but I can see where the other side is coming from.

I'm more concerned however with using the feature to alert me when friends log on so that we can head out on our regular fleet activities but I expect that not everyone who doesn't mind being listed also wants a big list of ppl popping up in the notifications window when they are really only interested in a select few. For that reason I think it would be much more appropriate to give the person being listed a simple option of whether or not to allow it as opposed to forcing everyone to list everyone who wants to list them.

Forcing the listing to be mutual would be a step in the wrong direction in regards to logical functionality. I'd almost rather it just be removed at that point because it's just a lazy mans approach to dealing with the issue.

Hunting people worked just fine before watch lists, and will continue to do so after this. I think you are being a bit rash if you leave because of this.

It's this and a whole bunch of other nerfs to non-consensual pvp. I am not interested in the game CCP are trying to turn EVE into.

It's not a nerf to non-consensual PvP. It's a nerf to a stupid meta-game mechanic that provides perfect, infallible intelligence across the entire universe.

Anyway, I agree with the fact to cancel the watchlist viewing.
It's giving an unfair advantage strategically.

You need perfect infallible intelligence across the galaxy of at least this basic level to hunt someone unless you never leave your computer, sleep or do anything in EVE other than sit outside his station.

Gankers and whale riders rejoice.

How are location agents going to work now? You pay 250K and the guy says "Sorry, the scumbag is not on right now. Thanks for the money." ?

How do mercs like this change now that they can't tell if their targets are online or not?

Maybe you can bribe one of his corp mates to tell you when he is or isn't online.

But let me guess, you can't do that because then that would risk exposing yourself, alerting the one you're tracking to his being tracked.

You can't take any risk, but the other guy should be completely open to it.

Got it.

No change to locator agents was mentioned. If anything, the locator agent feature is likely to get overhauled and buffed.

Believe it or not, most good targets are "solo" players with no corp, no friends and quite frequently auto-reject for chat.

Pay other people to provide you information. Investigate, see who lives in his system and mail them asking to inform you of his whereabouts and goings on.

There's possibility, potential.

Certainly you're a smart enough guy to figure this stuff out.

A lot of people don't have "a system", they wander around. If you'd ever seriously hunted people in EVE you'd know this.

Then message the people in the systems he frequents.

You're so quick to come up with excuses and reasons as to why this will utterly destroy the possibility of ever finding someone that I'm forced to believe you're not a very good hunter.

There are about 8000 systems in EVE you know. The only way removing intel is acceptable is if enough systems are deleted to bring this down to a reasonable number.

Needs a reduction in locator agent cost, return time and reuse time to compensate.

It negatively impacts defenders too, since it's equally impossible for them watchlist aggressors. So the operate as normal but dock when a war target logs in behavior becomes impossible.

Thank goodness trade hub campers, everyone's favorite highsec PVPers are totally unaffected.
