Cockpit View

Ok this thread is completely derailled by constant misunderstanding. EVE Online is a 3d combat sim. It renders 3d models of everything. You move in three dimensions. It's a 3d game for crying out loud.

This thread has nothing whatsoever to do with WASD or a change in rendering. There are no extra overheads brought to changing the camera view from outside the ship to inside. In fact, if we had a fixed camera view of a cockpit/bridge it would actually reduce the poly count and raise the fps. Do some homework folks. And for the love of all that is good in the world. Read the OP befoore spurting this drivel about 3d rendering and WASD functionality.

I swear most people wake up with an urge to post and jump in without any forethought.

In fact, why am I even posting? CCP will never implement anything that isn't already planned.

Technical limitations aside, even being able to WASD move your ship instead of double-clicking in space would be an incredible improvement to gameplay, and would enable EVE to cater to a larger audiance.

as soon as someone suggests WASD, they lose all credibility to me in the fact that they have absolutely no clue how this game works.

+1. people need to read the backstory of eve. it explains it all. Eve ship's dont have a control console. The ships are controled throu your mind. Eve is 50000 years in the future you know.

An Idea that might make the gameplay a little more interesting and fun, how about being able to switch to a Cockpit view? With different console instruments on each ship, and even having a bridge on some of the larger vessels. This could be quite an interesting thing to throw in with the already great world of EVE.

While I agree in principle, in practice the issue is one of complexity. Right now, the player can find everything he needs at a glance -- shields, armor, weapons, propulsion, scanners, autopilot, they're all immediately visible.

I'd love to see a cockpit view (or the EVE equivalent), but that means adding all of the detail that a 'bridge view' requires (buttons, dials, things that randomly blink and go 'beep'), which would unnecessarily disrupt the elegant HUD (heads-up display) that we've already got.

I can't get rid of my darn signature!  Oh, wait....

And still there are no cockpits in eve online that can fit a capsule.

And chances are there are no bridge views EITHER and ultimately in a podded ship the bridge is the most liekliest place entirely devoid of any crew.

Face it when you jack into the ship, the ship becomes an extention of you. Your ship's hull is now mentally your skin. Its senses are you'rs. Talking to another ship is no different than you talking to another person.

Every missile that hits brings pain. every module you turn on brings a different set of emotions.

You are the ship.

The ship is your body.

To Be honest I rather be able to tour the entire ship one day but thats when its docked no mid fight.

WASD is great in 2D ... but we can move in all three dimensions here...

Not a fan of FPS, are we?

FPS has WASD (+ shift for run), and jump/crouch. OK, but how well is that control scheme going to handle "forward at full speed, whilst diverging above the centre plane at 15 degrees"?

Unless we're talking about de-coupling "speed of travel" from the WASD controls ... at which point we start having to skip the whole "keyboard" thing, get implants, and start control... Shocked

Meh :S your on dangerous ground here - your asking CCP..? to do a.. GUI..? =S - dood! have you even LOOKED at the current one?

lol

Anywho - ye, i support this idea, for multiple reasons - yes, we wil have a prettyer game, Yes, we will have a more intense game play, and yes! we wil get a hell og lot of randomass nabs who just goes like "uhh spacegame - gimme!" which will be like.. pumpgun to a pie to shoot down.

Definetly supported.

Waste no time with these bigots my lady, the commonwealth has always been blind to genius ;) - That being said, CCP does take their community very serious, at least in my understanding - the most of their last expansion was, if you follow the suggestion forums, more or less a complete follow up of ideas and suggestions from the community, also some from short term postings - the real issue is: WoD - world of darkness and DUST 17 - which, ultimately requires most of their ressources - a bad disposition, if you ask me, but one they alledgedly have learned from AKA redistributed ressources back into EVE, at least to my knowledge.

Anywho, OT, the whole cockpit boiled down to the Selected item window, is imho, a complete joke - it works, but its a patch solution without any real respect for the joy of spaceflight - it needs so much more, so definetly, supported.

The answer is simply....

"NO"

History be it or not

1. Ships are either Mind Controlled from a Pod from within a Ship,

2. Orders are given to minions in the ships as they are so large, you are a commander of the ship you say where and when to go and they move it!

You don't actually pilot the ship, the closest ship you can pilot would be a shuttle, however.......... your in a pod in a shuttle. So no!

Ships are driven by Command Input, not Physical Input

no, not really ...

My post (as Ana noticed) was a reference to how Centauri used an arcade game to recruit Alex for the Star League in the movie "The Last Starfighter".

One of the bitter points of a good bittervet is the realisation that all those SP don't really do much, and that the newbie is having much more fun with what little he has. - Tippia
