So what is the best way to jump into PVP right away? Fly around solo? Join FW? Or join up with someone like RvB?

Highsec to nullsec gates. You can still get 1v1 frig battles even.

This, or some hi/low gates lead to quieter pipes where newbro miners try their hand. You should be able to 2 shot a few ventures before someone in a faction iWin ship kills you.
D-scan is your only friend.

^this... so much this..

buy 20 frigs and go to FW space.
Blow em all up and have fun doing so.
I personly recomend red wine while doing so..
Try to learn as much as you can in every fight..
who is controlling range.. and why..?
who is doing most dmg and why.. what ships can you fight in the ship you fly?

ask questions.. it helps to write it down, a combat log/blog.
ask for feedback.. talk to the guys you fight.. ask for their opinion on what you could/should have done.

and remember.. have fun!

Fit a weapon to a cheap ship.
Undock.
Go to low sec or even better, null sec.
Shot someone.

Been around since the beginning.

The best ways to jump into PVP are via a gate or a cyno.

Get the right corp.
EVE Uni, Brave, RvB all have continuous content.
Dunno about the others, but Brave will generally cover the cost of tackle frigs and logistics, so free practice for you.

Play with frigs until you start to understand how PvP works.
When you can blow the ISK then maybe try some dessies.

My suggestion would be to get into a Warfare Faction and focus on the skills needed to fly a Faction Frigate like everyone else does. Then start with Novice outposts.

I've tried several regular frigates and every time, I get someone gate in in a faction frig that does 2,500 dmg to me in 3 seconds.

I have been actively looking for targets in my Manticore, FWF frig, you name it and I have yet to get a single kill. lol It's pretty funny at this point and has made me broke.

I'm off to go exploring to make some more ISK so I can start over.

The best way to jump into pvp is to find the first high-to-lowsec gate you can find and click "jump".

But that also depends on your definition of what 'pvp' is. You will find on the other side that a 15 man gatecamp that will have you sitting back in station in a pod before you even have a millisecond to assess the situation. YAY 1337 PVPERS!! YAY!!!!

As an option, just to dip your toes, consider hopping into some of the fleets hosted by the NPSI community. It's different than doing solo work, but still fun and you'll make explosions along the way:

Bombers Bar
Spectre Fleet
Redemption Road

All of those have public channels and Mail lists. There are other NPSI groups, but those are the ones that I personally have had the most fun flying with. You could also join a Corp and find a mentor (hint, hint).

I came here to suggest an NPSI group as well. NPSI stands for "Not Purple, Shoot It." (Purple refers to the color of your fleetmates when you're in a fleet.) Basically these are groups of people not bound together by alliance or corp ties, rather they are cooperating together for the sheer fun of it. No corp applications or API checks required. It's a very low-commitment way of trying out PvP.

Some of the NPSI groups cater to the more experienced PvP people - alternatively, there are new-player oriented corps like Pandemic Horde, Karma Fleet and EVE Uni. They are specifically set up to introduce people to their first PvP experiences.

CAS Combat Guild, a 23x7 NPSI fleet that I am part of, has a mixture of both brand-new pilots and 10+ year vets.

Do some research on the various groups mentioned above, and approach whichever ones sound most interesting to you. There's so much to learn about PvP that I personally wouldn't have been able to learn it very well on my own.

I too was going to suggest the NPSI roams, they are lots of fun.

Redemption Road run monthly New Bro Roams that are specifically aimed at new characters, the suggested fits can be skilled into in less than a day iirc

Unfortunately this months New Bro Roam has only just happened, however most of the other roams are perfectly fine for those that are already familiar with eve/fleet mechanics, even with little to no knowledge on actual PvP.

Try faction warfare, its awesome way for new players to come into pvp world. Fit frigate with t2 modules, go into militia region, try to stay away from systems with huge local and sit at novice beacons. Easy to learn, hard to master.

No links, no scouts. True solo pvp pilot.

I do not know the best way. For me, joining a PvP focused player corp that was active in my time zone was a good way.

I'm a big fan of the various public PvP fleets that various groups in the game run.

Often called "Not Purple, Shoot It" fleets, in that they're an alliance of convenience for just as long as the fleet holds together, these fleets don't require that you join a corporation or alliance to participate, they'll usually take any player if they have space (including and particularly new players who are excited about PvP), and they're a great way to get familiar with the terminology and gameplay associated in participating in fleet operations.

There are a few potential downsides: NPSI fleets often go into Providence, so if you have a special concern about staying off the residents' "kill on sight" list, you may want to make sure that's not the plan. Also, you might sometimes be called upon to shoot your alliance or corpmates on such a run, so make sure you're behaving consistently with your organization's rules, if any. Also, NPSI fleets are not usually as rigorous about running strict, careful doctrines, so there are aspects of fleet play that you may not be exposed to like you would in the right corp or alliance.

All that said, it's a neat experience and if you're not already affiliated with a PvP-oriented group in the game, it can be a fun way to meet similarly-interested people.

This is an old link on Reddit listing a number of NPSI organizations. Some of these may no longer exist or be running regularly, but I know several still are, so check them out.

If you spend enough RL money and buy many skills injectors you "may", "eventually", "one day" kill someone.

As you seem to be experiencing, if you don't know what you're doing, bringing out a more expensive ship is just going to result in more expensive lossmails.

Stick with T1 frigates for learning.

How is it more difficult now?

I strongly recommend doing one highsec gank first.

PVP is extremely nerve wracking until you have your first kill, and ganking will get you past that hurdle.

I support the New Order and CODE. alliance. www.minerbumping.com
