I just started reading up on this, but my impression is that control towers, labs, etc. will eventually cease to exist. Is this correct?

Yes. But there will be a transition when the two will exist side by side to allow POS owners to convert to Citadels. They will not be replacing existing POSes.

Yes, no , not really, kind of

Citadels are beign put in the game

Outposts (player owned stations as you refer, which isn't accurate) and POS are being removed. There will be some renumeration, however, there will be no trade in or swap for Citadels

Thanks for the links. I'm going to assume Citadels in high sec will still require charters? I don't recall coming across that info in the dev blogs.

That hasn't been mentioned, as far as I know.

All will require fuelling of some sort though.

During Eve vegas I've heard, that only modules will require fuel. Empty citadel with reprocessing plant will not require fuel.

Definitely not

Citadels can exist indefinitely without any fuel
Things that don't require fuel:
Corp Offices
Repairs
Docking
Tethering
Defenses

Things that do require fuel: (Notice the 4 things listed are the service modules, which are what requires fuel)
Compression
Market
Reprocessing
Clones

You can also have the service modules installed and turn them off, so they stop consuming fuel

Turning on any module will require so-called starting fuel, so you will lose more by turning on/off frequently.

Correct, they are putting a fuel cost to turn it on, to prevent excessive cycling of the service module for the specific purpose of saving fuel

Really folks?

Thanks for confirming what I posted: "All will require fuelling of some sort though."

EDIT: Yes, you can "turn the lights off" and not use fuel. You can do that with a POS too (I actually have two such POS).

Except when you turn off the lights, the citadel still works

You can dock/undock
You can repair ships
You can refit ships
You can assemble ships, repackage ships
You can tether

So, it is still a functioning object in space and without fuel will stay there for eternity, until it is shot and destroyed.

It can't use the service modules, which are addons, but the base citadel will still function no matter the status of fuel - lets see you turn off the shield of your pos and keep your super there logged in. Just let me know the system , I just want to drop by and see it.

No charters needed for Citadels as confirmed in a recent devblog.

Only with the pos as a whole. With citadels you can turn off certain facilities to save fuel. You seem annoyed yet your initial comment was misleading. I dont see the issue with people clarifying your statement.
