What is the best way to jump into PVP?

I've played this game off and on for years. The story is always the same. I play high sec to learn the game and slowly lose interest. Now, i want to do PVP so I figure this time around I should just jump right into it instead of playing it safe to learn eveyrhing I can. Learn by doing.

So what is the best way to jump into PVP right away? Fly around solo? Join FW? Or join up with someone like RvB?

When I started I fit some cheap ships and went looking for trouble in lowsec. Hang out at a belt and someone will land on you. Most likely they will have you countered. Joining FW and finding a corp is really when I began to learn it for real.

Not saying this is the best way. It is quite accessible, however.

If you want low-risk (no podding!), low-cost PvP you could do a lot worse than joining RvB for a taster. Then, look for a FW corp.

As an option, just to dip your toes, consider hopping into some of the fleets hosted by the NPSI community. It's different than doing solo work, but still fun and you'll make explosions along the way:

Bombers Bar
Spectre Fleet
Redemption Road

All of those have public channels and Mail lists. There are other NPSI groups, but those are the ones that I personally have had the most fun flying with. You could also join a Corp and find a mentor (hint, hint).

I tell you the WORST way...take all the free advice offered here.

I came here to suggest an NPSI group as well. NPSI stands for "Not Purple, Shoot It." (Purple refers to the color of your fleetmates when you're in a fleet.) Basically these are groups of people not bound together by alliance or corp ties, rather they are cooperating together for the sheer fun of it. No corp applications or API checks required. It's a very low-commitment way of trying out PvP.

Some of the NPSI groups cater to the more experienced PvP people - alternatively, there are new-player oriented corps like Pandemic Horde, Karma Fleet and EVE Uni. They are specifically set up to introduce people to their first PvP experiences.

CAS Combat Guild, a 23x7 NPSI fleet that I am part of, has a mixture of both brand-new pilots and 10+ year vets.

Do some research on the various groups mentioned above, and approach whichever ones sound most interesting to you. There's so much to learn about PvP that I personally wouldn't have been able to learn it very well on my own.

Great advise, thank you. I'll check out those groups.

^this... so much this..

buy 20 frigs and go to FW space.
Blow em all up and have fun doing so.
I personly recomend red wine while doing so..
Try to learn as much as you can in every fight..
who is controlling range.. and why..?
who is doing most dmg and why.. what ships can you fight in the ship you fly?

ask questions.. it helps to write it down, a combat log/blog.
ask for feedback.. talk to the guys you fight.. ask for their opinion on what you could/should have done.

and remember.. have fun!

Get in a ship you can afford to lose, undock and go at it.

Me too. I'm just too slow to the party these days.

I blame the entertaining SP injector threads for me not staying on top of the important stuff.

There is only one rule in eve. The #1 rule.

Once rule one is taken care of, go shoot something and get blown up. Laugh at the explody bits. Every time you get blown up, assume it was your fault. Figure out what you did wrong, and then do it again, but maybe without making the _same_ mistake.

I think fear of screwing up is one of the big impediments to people joining pvp. Don't be afraid you MIGHT screew up. Know that you WILL screw up. Repeatedly. Assume the same attitude in PvP in Eve as if you were playing an FPS.

My choice of pronouns is based on your avatar. Even if I know what is behind the avatar.

PVP as in an equal fight or GVP (killing people and taking their stuff solo) or FVP (getting in group of like-minded people and roaming around until you find a puppy to tear into little pieces)?

You need to define your goals better.

grab and fit a ship and go hunting.

Thats the easiest way, trial by fire. You find out really fast if you like pvp or not this way.

Otherways: Take an Agony Unleashed course and see if its right for you.

join an alliance and jump into a fleet.

But all in all its the same, grab a ship, throw a fit on it, and go looking for trouble

oh and ask questions (this is where i messed up) if you lose, e-mail the guy and ask him to share how and why he beat you. A lot of pvpers, pirates included' will be more then happy to tell you where you messed up. why? because if you get better then there is a chance for a much better fight next time. Ask questions, take the answers you get, and don;t be a smart ass about it.

Go to Nourvakaiken and jump Tama gate.

Or Amamake top belt. Or is that five years too late now?
