New Menu Analysis

Ok, I took a deeper look at the new UI on SiSi. I made a diagram that calls out the UI design issues I see with it, but here's a summary:

1) The fan-out menus are mostly superfluous. There only 8 unique icons in the entire menu tree that aren't already on the main bar. Those could be collapsed into smaller sub menus that are currently used for accessories.

2) The distance between left side menu and any non-duplicated function has grown from about 32 pixels to 268 pixels. They're also buried 2 submenus down instead of at most 1, which is the max of the current system. That's a lot of extra mouse movement.

3) The undock button has been placed next to commonly used functions. While accidentally clicking other buttons doesn't usually have a major impact on gameplay (they just pop up another window), this button puts you into space where you can be engaged by other players. A button with that significance shouldn't be placed in such a way as to make accidental clicks more likely.

Here's the image i marked up. It highlights these issues in a graphical way.

Ive just dragged all the icons that i use on to the main bar so i dont have to access a menu. The menu will become a dumping ground for the functions that i dont use, like science and industry for example.

You do realize the point of the customizable side bar is to only have what you would commonly use. The multiple sub menu under the E main menu is the storage for all buttons...

This is not a finished product and is now capable of future expansion. Ground work.
Allows for new functions and buttons in any coming expansions such as any possible functions related to Dust. Eventually there would be more buttons than space with the old neocom.
Like I would hope someday they add a Compare Tool button to the neo-com rather than bury it under item info.

The main problem I feel currently is how Minimized chat windows are handled.
The custom groupings are not finished at all.
Missing icons for some windows.

And ok, maybe that undock too close to ships button.

Already have a large topic on the new-com already...

Moreso, there should be an option to turn off the chat window groupings. i DO NOT WANT to minimise chat windows into a useless menu that i will otherwise store only things i dont use. If people want to minimise chat windows to that, fine. I do not.

If i have a chat window open, it has a place on my screen anyway, if i minimise it, it was an accident and having to access a menu to get it back is less efficient than the current solution.

I would like to see the Agent finder icon in the menu bar. So I do not have to dock again to look for an agent

That would be nice - as it is you can access the Agent Finder from the people and places menu while in space however.

You can place it there with the new build and the remove option is now working for all icons. Looks like they are working on nameing groups next. There is some new coding regarding the pop up name. Not changable yet though.

A 'right-click, pin to neocom bar' option from the menus would be nice. I can see it saving a lot of tedious dragging and dropping.
