If you are thinking about switching over to the new launcher, or if you have recently switched over and have a hard time getting your settings migrated, you might want to spend a few minutes with this screencast:

Don't be scared - the launcher never deletes your previous settings. Give it a try - if it fails, try again.

Great video. Fortunately/unfortunately I fiddled with those settings for some time before seeing this video and figured out how to use the migrate tool before watching this. However, I still have one great disappointment.

Now that I've seen the video and witnessed how the names and profiles that are loaded in the migrate tool immediately populated the cog wheel manage profile menu I have to report that mine does not do that.

No matter how many profiles I migrate, create, and rename in the migrate tool they do not appear in the cog wheel profile management menu. I see 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7...and they will not change no matter what I do.

Is this bugged? Am I doing something wrong? I'd really like to use this tool as the video shows it would be very, very helpful to managing my settings on the different servers.

Thanks in advance.

Ok so I decided to try the new launcher as a fresh install (but before that, I saved the EVE folder which was in my C:\ and had ~15 gigs worth of files under SharedCache folder).
However, starting the installation, by default it selects C:/EVE but as I proceed, I get a message that the installation destination is not empty and uninstallation may wipe out the contents, etc etc. So I made a new folder right there and installed it there. But after installation my launcher started downloading its updates, and later started downloading ~4 gigs worth of resources again. Is there something I'm doing wrong? Last month I tried it when I had my old launcher and full installation, did exactly according to the video (got same message as destination folder is not empty, but installed it there), it kept downloading 4GB as updates (but my client was up-to-date before, so I wonder why). I already have all the resources files updated but I don't want to waste weeks downloading stuff which I already have :/

Am I missing some interpretation of migrate that I don't understand? I followed the instructions as best as they could be followed, but while my "profile" was migrated it seems everything else is essentially a new install. The introduction video was reset to play again and not one single change I'd made to the UI settings was preserved - even Aura popped up to introduce me to the game. I went immediately back to the old launcher and all is well, but if I am going to have to eventually switch, then I'd prefer all my changes switched with me. BTW, while the migrate process found my old install just fine, why doesn't it follow the lead of my old install at all? Old Eve is installed in "D:\Programs (x86)\CCP\something..." and new Eve defaulted to "C:\EVE" . I bet I wanted it installed on the same drive, no? It's a little thing, but it matters. Just like the UI settings which are already sitting in my old install.

Thanks.

I changed to the new launcher, and suprise suprise, everything was lost, all settings whole cache, need to do full new install, set up all windows, chats, get overview, the works...

I know what i did wrong, but your youtube guide DIDNT cover the issue, when uninstalling the old client (as shown in the video) there comes confirmation box about deleting cache and settings, which i just hit next since there wasnt warning in the video and it was supposedly part of the "old install".

Long story short, make better install guide, this capsuleer was nuked by CCP.
