FPS drops with multiple clients launched

Hello,

I've noticed a very huge fps drop when I launch more than 1 client in windowed mode. With only one, I can do 100+ fps stable, but when I have 4 open it barely reaches 60fps. I got Gtx 980 ti, so it's not gpu issue. On Windows I can run 4 clients and play Witcher 3 without any framerate drop.

I am using Ubuntu 15.10, wine 1.8. Don't think problem is with versions as I had same issues in the past with 14.04 and 1.6. Perhaps there is some fix to run multiple clients more effectively or do I have to live with under-performing EVE when multiboxing?

Hey.

A bit late reply but still :-) I had similar problem. With one client FPS was ok. WIth 2 clients, after I undocked or after gate jump FPS dropped drastically. I fixed it with lowering graphic settings. But I dont remember with ones and I accidently deleted my whole wine prefix and whith new one I dont have such problem.

Anyway try AA disabled, Post Processing Low, Shader Quality Med (maybe shadow quality too) and you will see. If it wont work, try the lowest settings if there is the problem and then play with the settings. It might be a combination of 2 settings. A bit tricky and time demanding to play with, but I think you can fix your problem that way. Ye and after changing settings it would be good to restart all clients, because as I remember once I had slow client, changing back settings did not work. And there is high CPU activity too when the problem occurs.

Hope it helps

I normally work with 3x clients. Windowed.
All client minimized or not in foreground use really few graphic computation. Only expanded client in foreground use the max power of the graphic card.
My hw/sw setup:

i7 6700K 4.0GHz
NVIDIA GTX980 - drivers 352.79 (not cutting edge but recomanded/certified) 4k 60Hz 28" ASUS monitor.
SSD 830 as system disk "and" as .wine installation
Ubuntu-Mate 15.10 64bit
wine 1.9.3 staging

Note: yes, this system setup is quite strong but i think the Desktop Environment /window manager do the difference in any case even with lower hardware (i confirm that since i have eve on my laptop).
I mean that the window manager can put the "background" window in a sort of quasi-sleep and give the max power to the "foreground" one.

Cinnamon 2.8.6 or MATE 1.12 as Desktop Environment.

Note2: I tried KDE too but the management of the windows is completely different and the performance here is very poor. Minimized/in background windows does not "slow down".
Note3: Yes, in windowed mode you loose a 20ish pixel in vertical but is really few respect the "quality of playing" imho.

Let me know :)

I personally havent measured FPS so I cant really say much, but I run 3 clients all in fixed window mode, so that is easier to alt tab between them. Of course, the moment they are most active is when Im mining (2 hulks/1 orca booster/storage), so I alt tab a lot and very frequently.

I was getting heavy memory usage, and even though I lowered a few of the detail settings, it was not enough to make it work.

On the last patch, I started using the HUD view (first person view) on all 3 clients and that made a huge difference, but since I come from space sims and simulations.. a HUD view is kinda normal for me, but I understand not everyone can enjoy playing like this.

Anyways, my 2 cents.

PS: I have noticed also that the times when Im running just one client, that the ammount of memory in use is abnormally high, like I can get at 2GB easily just running the one client and the launcher, and I dont really understand why is happening.

Ubuntu Mate 16.04.2 64bit // Amd A8-5600K with RX460 4GB // 6GB DDR3 // Sandisk 120GB SSD Plus // Wine Stable 2.01 // Native Linux Launcher // TS3 working // Happy to be back in Ubuntu :)

Are you using wine staging with CSMT enabled? of no, do that first.

After launch your EVE client on different CPU Core and pin them. use taskset for that.

taskset -c 0,1 eve1.sh
taskset -c 2,3 eve2.sh

etc etc
