Newbie mission rewards

So I came back into the game after a break of a few years and I noticed some new, good changes to the game. One thing however struck me as not so good - Career Agent rewards.

The problem here is two-fold. Firstly in that a good chunk of the rewards given by Career Agents were skillbooks already possessed by the character from when it was created. These books were low value and useless to the character. Not to sound childish or whatever, but to me it seemed a bit like rewarding a drowning man with a drink of water.

Secondly, that some of the rewards were duplicated by other Career Agents e.g. ships/skillbooks/equipment.

The problem is that there is the risk that the newbie phase of a character's life is seen unrewarding and this could be seriously off-putting.

I suggest that the rewards given by the career agents are changed and soon. E.g. over the course of going through the process of completing all Career Agent pathways, the new player is able to accumulate a full set of +1 implants. Useful I think? Maybe someone else can come up with better ideas, but this is just my two-pence worth.

A bunch of low level stuff when you start out in a new game? Seriously?

Remove standings and insurance.

The main issue is new players are being given skillbooks for skills they have by default, due to the increase in starter SP.

So what. Sell them on the market if possible and if not worth the trouble just trash the book.

Newbie rewards were buffed overall in the last couple of years. And if you're looking at mining... you get a bunch of ventures today.

I started out in a Navitas back when I was a newbie and mined in an Exequror until I could afford my first retriever. Which of course got ganked by Immortalis just a week after I bought it Lol.

It's never been easier to get into the game.

Remove standings and insurance.

tell us which other MMO gives/rewards a newbro "purple/gold/blue" stuff at level 1 or even 20?

implants, afaik, just makes you risk averse so i wouldn't encourage it early on. they need to learn how to play the game and yes that includes dying, a lot, before plugging in implants.

I think it is fair to say that most of us agree that the newbie missions could use some revamping, in general. It is much better than it was when I started in 2009, but there is always room for improvement...

Specifically, with regards to implants, we are supposed to run missions, get LPs and purchase them from the Loyalty Store, but this isn't really clear from the newbie missions.

Personally, I think we need to progress in the game as it was intended, run some missions in High Sec, make our way out to Low Sec and so forth, but that ideal path isn't really clear. I know there isn't "one true ideal path," but CCP has set up the game to sort of progress from one area to another.

I made a lot of mistakes with my main. I definitely fell into the "bigger must be better" trap and joined a few Null Sec corps early on and I couldn't even clear some of the rats at the asteroid belts or near the gates.

It sounds plausible enough tonight, but wait until tomorrow. Wait for the common sense of the morning.

I don't see any reason to resist a change so that skill book awards are not for automatically learned skills. That is reasonable. Also, clearing out duplicate awards for skillbooks is also good.

Duplicate equipment or ships is fine. Having spares as a newbie, when one is more likely to accidentally get blown up in pve is a good thing.

My choice of pronouns is based on your avatar. Even if I know what is behind the avatar.

Erm ... the problem is the OP is crossing the streams.

The old NPE was agent driven. Not any more. Now we have Opportunities. It is self-directed without agents.

The old agents are still hanging around though. For now at least.
