Null sec Ice mining

I have a question about Ice inning in null sec, currently I am running one Skiff due to its high Ehp and drone damage bonus to withstand NPCS and some ganks. I'm about to run two characters and was wondering should I stick with 2 skiffs or should I run 2 hulks instead?
What I'm looking for is max yield of ice per hour, I've noticed a few articles that the Hulk is better than the skiff in ice mining, but can you get more Ice per hour with a skiff than hulk or vice versa?

Just trying to find a good fit to start running 2 exhumers at the same time.

Thanks,

For two exhumers oriented for yield, you should try the Mackinaw, they're perfect for that. One alone could struggle tanking but 2 should be fine.

Hulks are good if you use a enormous freight container or a hauler, you will lose to much time warping back an forth from station to ice anom, plus it will be harder tanking with them, you have way less cpu available for tank than on the others.

Do mackinaws have better yield per hour than skiffs and hulks do? And if I had an orca boost on one alt would a hulk be a better option if I had a hauler?

For Hulks to be better than Mackinaw, you need at least 2 of them mining constantly, even 3 maybe. And yes with a large ore hold of 35k m3, they have a better yield than Skiff.

Might have to try the Mackinaw then for ice mining. Hopefully gets a little more than the skiff

a lot depends on your fleet setup, 2 hulks alone? not worth it, youll spend to much time warping to station to drop off ice and thus loosing the extra yield you get. as others said 2 macks would prolly be best if your solo

Pretty sure the amount mined is virtually the same for skiffs and macks. The macks just have the added bonus of a larger hold. If you were planning on mining into a container, then you'd want to stick with skiffs for the extra tank.

Don't worry about getting an orca till you have 8 or so miners. Before then you're better off just adding another miner.

Your best bet though would be to join a corp/alliance that has boosts already going.

Alright so I did some calculations with the Mack and the Skiff. So here is what I'm getting for numbers after buying a Mackinaw and fitting it to the best of my ability for max ice per hour that it could do,

Mackinaw: 90.5s per harvester
Skiff: 41.2s with one harvester

So therefore, every 82.4s Skiff has mined 2 ice while the mackinaw hasn't even mined 1.

So to put it in perspective:
Every 15k m3 the skiff can fill its hull in: 618s which results in: 10.3 minutes its full

Mackinaw will fill its hull in: 1583.75s which results in: 26.4 minutes its full

So in roughly 24.03333 Minutes the skiff can fill 35k m3 of ice while the Mackinaw is still chewing away to get to 35k m3

So not sure if the 2.37 minutes is travel time or if skiff has more travel time than 26.4 minutes to fill 35k m3 but I'm not seeing how the Mackinaw can actually outweigh the Skiff in yield with ice per hour.

If I'm wrong please tell me why and how since I'm not seeing the picture at all right now.

Not sure about your numbers, with Exhumer to V and ice mining to V, with Ice harvester II, 3 upgrades II and the ice rig, I get the exact same yield for both ships. The only difference being the more travels the Skiff have to do to mine the same amount than the Mackinaw.

Do you have a fit for the mack, because with 3 Ice upgrades it loses a lot of tank especially against null BSs

So as an offshoot of the OP's question; When/How should I be employing my hulk?
Because I bought one back when they were the kings of mining but since the changes to Mining Barges it has been sitting forgotten in one of my hangers.
