Gradual damage caused by use of a flawed SP extractor/injector (variant that is far cheaper than currently priced SP extractors. The currently priced variant still exist--now as clean versions).

Visual guide to player degradation: https://imgur.com/FRhQouJ

This degradation is both an appearance change and an attribute change.
Stage 1 = (-2) Attributes (This stage is permanent upon the first use of a flawed extractor or flawed injector)
Stage 2 = (-6) Attributes
Stage 3 = (-12) Attributes

These changes in appearance and attributes may also affect your ability to interact in EVE from a social/roleplay standpoint as some corporations may deny your membership if you display ravaged markings of skill injector use (or on the other hand are too pure skin for the likes of synths). Corp recruiters may ask you to perform an initial or periodic strip search in joining a corporation (e.g. wearing open shirts for a recruiter to clearly inspect the full body avatar of a player).

The next post will develop the idea of getting players to opt into the use of cheap skill extractors/injectors with side effects, and use the Citadel and Project Discovery systems to remedy those side effects.

Integration of Project Discovery to fix a flawed variation of cheaply produced skill injectors

Stage 0: Deliver flawed injector to SoE or Citadel Research Lab.
-Select 'make available for decontamination'
-Injector placed into holding at station.
-Flawed extractors cannot be decontaminated. Player must choose which character will take permanent appearance and attribute hit to take advantage of the cheap variant extractors from AUR store. The use of flawed extractors produce flawed injectors which if not fixed/cleaned through Project Discovery Research, permanently affect another player's appearance/attributes if injected.

Stage 1: Tap into Professor Lundberg's Research database.
-Project Discovery Tab can be accessed anywhere.
-If flawed injectors have been made available for decontamination any cell identification tasks you complete will not award SoE loyalty points, but rather points toward completing a full clean of an injector.
-The higher your proficiency in correctly completing task the more points you earn--completing a fix/clean faster.

Stage 2: Using linked citadel as a research compiler booster
-If you belong to a corporation that holds a Citadel you may take advantage of the computing power of that station to increase the number of cleaning points you earn.
-System selects best available Citadel.
-Citadel Modifers for Injector Research Tasks:
Medium = 2x
Large = 3x
X-Large = 4x

Stage 3: Pick Up Cleaned Injector
-Return to same SoE station or Citadel Station where injector was made 'available for decontamination' to claim clean injector.
-Clean injector will not harm your appearance or give a negative attribute effect if injected.
-If no more dirty skill injectors are in queue, Project Discovery Tasks will return to awarding SoE loyalty points.

Theory-crafting the purpose of Skill Pariahs

Market can drive demand for clean extractor/injector needles.
-Bad extractors / injectors contribute to appearance and attribute degradation.

Citadels owners employ pariahs (player alts already permanently stricken with the appearance/attribute change). They are provided several things for their work:
-Dirty injectors (that haven't been cleaned yet) found on the player market.
-Dirty extractors bought cheap for AUR or via the player market.
-Temporary Attribute Booster (Cerebral Accelerators Dropped from theorized missions*).
*-Cerebral Accelerators can only be used by pariahs.

-Occasional AUR character re-sculpt tokens, Neuroplasticity Treatment token purchased from a SoE station for loyalty points. Either token will reset attribute damage to stage 1 (minus two all attribute points). This allows a player to continue taking advantage of Cerebral Accelerators. At stage three severity (minus twelve attribute points), accelerators lose the potency of their skill gain versus the difficulty of obtaining them.

*CCP demoed Temporary Skill accelerators during the Crimson Harvest event. Introducing a means to actively grind missions for SP sources would have big implications for EVE which I am not sure how to fully handle. Making skill accelerators only accessible to Pariahs may offer a means to balance the strength of these modules and the flow of SP they introduce into the game.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Ultimately, by encouraging more player to player interaction, within player built assets, furthers the potential for SP theft and loss. Citadels are places to be defended. Employed skill point pariahs (alts) are players to be watched with a careful eye. The emphasis on Project Discovery to clean injectors and provide attribute recovery tokens heavily drives participation with the feature.

The salt is already very real.

" I actually care about how my capsuleer looks but I'm not going to spend stupid amounts 1/2"

"2/2 of money just to keep my character the way it looks just because I need a skill injector."

"could affect something as simple as being accepted into a corp, that's cause for unsubbing."

Added new point:

Citadels owners employ pariahs (players already permanently stricken with appearance change) in dirty SP washing facilities (medical facilities). These players inject dirty SP injectors and extract them with cheap dirty extractors--however the citadel medical facility improves the RNG potential of making a clean injector. The better the citadel, the higher return on investment. Corporations must defend these citadels. Additionally, injectors must either be stored or shipped off station for a player/corp member to obtain access to the clean SP needle.

Looking for feedback on the idea of connecting Project Discovery and Citadels to skill transfer.

This idea has no value beyond amusement Lol

When you don't know the difference between there, their, and they're, you come across as being so uneducated that your viewpoint can be safely dismissed. The literate is unlikely to learn much from the illiterate.

Really? Even considering it involves project discovery, citadels, and encourages people to buy regular price skill extractors and character resculpts?

Under this proposal players have the option to buy skill extractors at their current price (999 AUR) and do not worry about performing multiple cell identification tasks to clean injectors.

Or they can buy the cheap dirty extractor (25-100 AUR), sacrifice the appearance/attributes of a character to make dirty injector. Player proceed to perform Project Discovery tasks to clean that injector so it's more likely to be sold on the player market. Dirty injectors also damage appearance and attributes. See this image: https://imgur.com/FRhQouJ

Number of required Project Discovery tasks is determined by a.) identification proficiency % and, b.) the modifier of the Citadel research station database you are connected to.

Medium = 2x
Large = 3x
X-Large = 4x

Seems more like an over-the-top punishment for players daring to use a new feature you seem to dislike.

I really don't like the skill transfer feature either, but there are many other features already in game that I dislike even more.

Hardly. I love the idea. I've been championing the idea of the granular skill extraction and transfer on the Dust forums since early last year. Ticked pink when CCP announced they be bringing it to EVE.

Now I'm just toying around with the idea of adding consequence to the use extractors.

You clearly have thought it out, credit to you for that, but the idea of using negative reinforcement, as the motivator to make this interesting, even though it fits the dark universe theme, would have a negative long term influence on retention and satisfaction.
Flip it round, so that in some way, people feel the process and ideas makes them better(or more beautiful) and you may have a winning idea.

@epicurus ataraxia

That's a good point. I'll put some thought to it.

Edit: The only idea I have so far is that people who choose to accept the permanent effects of these 'bad' extractors/injector types have access to special drifter drugs or temporary cerebral accelerators that allow them to do tasks or produce skill points in ways that unaffected capsuleers cannot.

Shaping the language to this and balancing perks is key.
