What kind of scam is the new FAX skill book?

The new ships aren't replacing carriers, so it wouldn't make any sense for you to just get these huge skills for free. Ship roles get changed all the time and have been changed and reshuffled so many times over the years, and no-one has ever gotten a completely new skill trained to 5 for free. Just because it happens to be the capital ships this time doesn't suddenly change that. The carriers will become a drone platform and if you want to fly the dedicated logi capitals you can start training that skill right now. Good luck!

But it is. The Drake used to have the role of a mainline doctrine DPS ship. Nowadays it barely has any role at all. Did the drake pilots get any compensation? No, they hardened the **** up and trained something else.

You've got to be joking. That's called a nerf, that isn't completely removing a ship defining role that only that line of ship can fill....

This isn't true at all. I got 8 free skills on all of my accounts when they changed BC and destroyer skills to be racial.

Calm down, they haven't announced their plans for reimbursing your carrier, triage, and fighters skills yet.

They HAVE TO seed the skill on the market so that it's available for use, and it doesn't hurt anyone if they seed it early.

Simply don't buy it yet and wait for them to announce what they'll do with the carrier / triage / fighters skills for people who have trained them already.

The result is the same. You can still put Remote Reps on your carrier, as far as I understand it. They will just be ****, quite like the Drake.

Have you read the carriers dev blog? They're creating a whole new unique role: your carrier becomes its own RTS-like fleet; you have visual control over the map and can produce (launch) and control your "units" (squadrons) and they have special abilities, plus your ship can reinforce them with its special ability.

Frankly, playing your own RTS vs. sitting in a primary target weaponless ship trying to comply with everyone's demands to repair them... I don't understand why people would even want to fly faux'es.

From my point of view CCP should give you the skill for free, just to entice you to pick up the ship.

Seriously, every other MMO out there has evolved its healers to give them DPS respecs and even change the "healing" gameplay to be involved and not whack-a-mole.

Meanwhile, in EVE... you don't even get on any killmails, FFS! NO WEAPONS!!!

If you can fly it now, you can fly it after....

So then make it so people can fly the Triage FAX ships, but no longer the regular carriers that will be something different? Eh?

I admittedly haven't been able to find the dev blog to confirm this but the way I understand it is that instead of sticking with the policy of "if you could fly it before, you can fly it now", they are seeding a fax skill book and making everyone train fax before they can fly triage.

Am I the only person outraged by this as much as the scandoulous roll out of the skill extractors prices? I've already trained carrier five in order to have a good triage pilot. How is this flying by everyone that they're having a skill just taken right out from under them?

Is there anyone that has more information on why they chose to do this? The tin foil hat in me thinks they did it to encourage people to invest in these skill extractors in order to train triage in a reasonable amount of time, but that's just speculation. Regardless, I had been under the impression that this whole time they had been intending on rolling out fax so anyone with previous triage capability would be able to fly them right away. Is there any info out there on why they changed it up this? I for one think it's complete BS.

I feel like posts like this would be much more useful if the people who posted them weren't always such unmitigated tools.

Aw, you missed all the swearwords and the allcaps!

Did you also throw salt over your shoulders and say my name backwards 3 times?

Hopefully I convinced the OP that fauxes are ****, compared to the new versions of carriers. Though, that dev blog sounds too good to be true; it's more likely a pipe dream. In reality, CCP will probably just make some small changes to the fighters and leave everything else related to carriers the way it is now.

Funny I thought the combination of tactical logistics and carrier skills allowed my to fly triage. I must be mistaken. Well I will be soon because that combination is being switched. What about the people that only trained carriers to use triage. What's the point of those wasted skills now?

Skill point extractors. I've heard they're a noob assist mechanic.

Capital rebalance was announced AGES ago. FAX was ages ago. I held off on training carrier as they said they'd be changing it. IF you already had carrier trained you had what? A YEAR to use it as Triage, you have time to train FAX now, and you still keep carrier after the change. What is the problem? Who flies logi anyways?

I'm going to assume you're going to refund the skills and allow people to allocate them to either skill in whatever way they like. That would be the only reasonable way of going about it IMO. Giving people free SP in this case is silly.

Oh goodness.....

So, we can indeed wait for the Dev Blog which, perhaps, will come out Tuesday as well, but I'd guessed a week after.

However, on Tuesday we can buy the new Force Auxiliary skill(s) - I suspect I will.

That will give us 3 months to train before the 'Spring Expansion', which, I strongly suspect will be on May 3rd or 10th (after Fanfest).

or...

One can buy some extractors and take the Carrier skill(s) and inject them as FAx skills - but 3 months is enough time to train anyway.

Don't soil your panties, you guys made a good point, we'll look at the numbers again. - CCP Ytterbium

Interesting. So you could fly FAX before they were even in the game? If you pulled this off, CCP will be impressed enough to gift you the skill book, I'm sure.
