Ratting: VNI vs Myrmidon

Hello all,

Lately I have been ratting (mostly Anomalies) in null/low and some High sec using my cloaky Vexor (never too safe in low/nul). Its fun, relaxing and potentially lucrative. And if I get caught, I don't lose too much (Vexor are cheap).

This said, even if the Vexor is a cheap but efficient ship, it does not have what it takes to take on Cosmic Anomalies such as the "Yard" and "Rally Points". It simply does not have the tank/dps.


Being cheap, and a Drone addict, I am looking for a ship that will open more possibilities without breaking my pretty small bank account. The beauty of Cosmic Anomalies, contrary to the Signatures/DED complexes, is that there are no Warp gate that limits the ship type that can pass through. So I can potentially do them with any ship. And when I find an escalation to DED space, I get an appropriate ship size to do it.


Therefore, I considered both the VNI and the Myrmidon as possible replacement for my Vexor. From my reading and EFT testing, the Myrmidon seems cheaper and easier to fit having more CPU/Grid and slots. However, the VNI seems to have a little more firepower and speed.

What would be the bext option?

Anyone has experience, recommendations, and/or fit to share?

PS: I can't fly the Ishtar yet, but it would be too expensive anyway for what I am ready to pay

If you are taking it to hostile space, VNI's superior agility and speed make it the obvious choice for me. That being said, Gnosis is a also a consideration (great agility, better buffer than VNI, but less speed) if you lack skills, I think you may be past that point though.

From my limited experience, if you are to be ganked. Its not a little more speed that will change anything.

Right, I could have written that better, I mentioned the speed as a means of damage mitigation as an upside as oppossed to the greater buffer and/or tanking ability of the Myrm.

coz i'm feeling nice....

Highs: DLA
Mids: 100MN monoprop AB, 2x LSE II, Drone Nav Comp
Lows: 4x DDA II, 2x PDS II

Rigs: fit for faction specific resists. Guristas, for example, is 2x Thermal + 1x Kinetic shield res rigs.

can handle Forsaken Hubs easily and a few of the harder sites too.

THIS IS NOT AN AFK-TAR! you will die if you try AFK ratting in this.

Now lets add one more constrain so its realistic for low sec escalations...

I need to add a cloak 2 on the fit.



Does it still make sense/be viable?

we are sort of beating around the bush here though.

vexor with a cloak ... this is how i describe the stratios to newbros.

maby you should look into that ship, its expensive yes but pretty much exactly what you want imo

It's viable as long as you carry a mobile depot and take it off when you are going to be exposed anyway. The penalty to the scan res will make it more dangerous as you will be exposed longer due to increased lock times. (lock time goes from 7 to 11 ticks on a frigate and 4 to 6 ticks for a cruiser.
