I have been thinking for a wile on how the Microsoft hololens could been used in eve and the only way i could see it being used in eve is for a U.I. in game things like chat box's, map, market window, windows like that, Of course it would only be used in that way and not for things like the H.U.D.

The way i'm thinking is say i want to open a the map and it appears in front of me of my deck or over flat surface and i manipulate the map with my fingers or with the keyboard and you could even do 3D holograms similar to the captions quarters and you see holograms on the coffee table that if you want that and use it for things like 3D map, images of ship and items, and a few other things but ill leave 3D up you, All i'm think of is a way it make the player be more apart of the game and for those of use who don't have a triple monitor setup to help unclutter the screen.

now like said before this would be for windows that are not used for the H.U.D and overview and things like that but used for chat window, market, industry tab, contacts, secondry windows only.

Jean-Paul Sartre once said “People are like dice. We throw ourselves in the direction of our own choosing.” these words are so true in eve

So instead of needing a triple monitor set-up we now need a very specific single manufacturer piece of hardware?

I'm no expert bit that seems like a lot of time and resources would be nerfed to make this novelty not many would use

This is amazing. OP, you can use this to display the captains quarters and it will totally replicate a basement somewhere. Complete with a door that won't open.

Fake edit: couldn't resist. Im sure you're a lovely human being.

I'm right behind you

dose not need to be a Microsoft hololens have so any manufacturer hardware would work and where a triple monitor can cost 500 up to 1500 depending on maker and screen size this might be good way to go but it's would a optional setting it there if people want to use it or not like the new camera modes

actually, many MS products are quite good. Are you using MS Windows, by any chance, btw? Twisted

edit: to stay on topic, MS Hololens, while an interesting idea, is, as a product, not even in beta / developer access phase, so I see no point in integrating it in anything.

Good, because this is a nice one. I have a fairly big white wall around my monitor which I could use easily as display area for UI elements via the Hololense so that my monitor only displays space and the really important things. Chats, the sidebar, system info, scanner windows, map, market window, contracts could all be displayed outside my monitor while I focus on the important in-space interaction and with the wink of my hand, I move in UI elements that I need or move some out of the focus that I do not need.

No, I seriously consider it malware.

I just think it is really stupid to tailor an already established product which runs on a variety of platforms to a single peace of proprietary hardware.

DUST ran on the proprietary Playstation 3, Valkyrie on the proprietary Rift and Morpheus, Gunjack on a select few Android phones. I do not see your point, IMY, should EVE be able to use the Hololense to augment the UI of the standard monitor display.

Dust just died, really good example. Looks like locking their products to a niche inside a niche is their thing this days, maybe you should work for them.

I still do not see your point. The OP does not suggest to make EVE run on the Hololense, but who get it to use it to augment their EVE experience. Making it possible to use more than one device or several devices at the same time to display the UI is not the same locking EVE into one platform. vOv

He thinks it is a good idea to divert development effort into extending EVE to a completely proprietary format just a few hundred people will ever use. Which I think is an idiotic idea and it's why I voice my concerns.

Current Hololens price. $3000.
Enough said.

CCP is known for doing rather unproductive things, just look at your char's face. It wears one of the less productive things. Whether it will be used by just a few hundred people remains to be seen. CCP also produces Valkyrie for VR, which not only makes you look like a complete tool when you use the gear, the devices were also highly expensive in the beginning (while having fewer functionalities than the Hololense dev kits due to their nature), but peoples till hyped this failure of a product into reality. Just like VR, which has taken years of development to become somewhat mainstream (it's still only used by enthusiasts, even at the reduced consumer price of 600 € for a kit + the 2k € for the "VR Ready" PC hardware.). The same is going to happen to Hololense products should there be a sufficiently potent market and feasible usage scenarios -- both of which are there. It's going to take time, but VR also did not happen from one day to another and yet, CCP is developing a game for it. This idea is something for a long term vision, not something for the immediate future.

Judging from the Wikipedia page, that really seems like an unlikely statement to make
