Mission Difficulty by region

Does mission difficulty and reward scale by security status? I was running missions in a 0.7 at level 4 that were easily within my means and now i'm seeing missions that are just a bit beyond my reach in the same ship configuration but in 0.5's. They also seem to pay a bit better.

So I'm wondering, do the varying empire regions have more or less difficult missions or am I seeing the result of lower security status impact on mission generation?

All I see is higher mission payout in lower sec systems. I notice no changes in bounties or difficulty.

Weird. I was in a Level 4 Gallente mission that flat trumped some of the hardest Amarr missions I'd ever seen. Maybe I just got lucky.

The missions themselves do not change based on security status. The mission mix will, however, change based on region and even by agent -- and some agents might give a slightly harder mix. I've never seen this correlated by security status though -- and it would be very hard to do in the first place as missions that are "hard" for one ship/pilot might be a cakewalk for others and vice versa.

Edit:

Which mission? Methinks you just got lucky/unlucky depending on how you look at it.

Well if you changed regions from Amarr to Galente space then the rats you face also changed. If your ship was set up to fight/tank Sanshas and you're doing Serp missions now then they would probably seem harder.

missions won't get harder, but you do get more LP in lower security system. I noticed 0.7 security system will max out at around 7.5K LP per, while in 0.4 lowsec lvl4's, Im easy pulling 10+K LP for the same missions.

To clarify.. it's the agent's location, not mission location, that determines the LP.

That was definitely my first thought.

Or maybe he went in bugged Worlds Collide (Gallente version) and got full pocket aggro. Did they fix it while I was away from EvE?

security status of the system your agent resides in (not where the mission takes place) _does_ have an effect on the difficulty of your mission.
for example you get harder rats in a 0.3 blockade than in a 0.8 blockade
not more rats, but higher grade ones that might have ewar and better tanks/weaponry, thus making it harder

check their bounties

at least that was the case a year ago when i sporadically did some lowsec missions

The Gurista pocket has always been a blobfest of NPCs.

Maybe there's a difference between low and high (and null) sec. I dunno, I'm too carebear to venture into lowsec. But I've noticed no difference between, say, a 0.8 agent and a 0.6 agent in terms of bounties.

Damage types also make a difference. you're throwing out a mix of Thermal and EM. Serps are thermal weak, but not so much em weak.

Woo! CSM XI!

The mission was Smashing the Supplier. I don't doubt my fitting, I've done enough 4's to fully grasp mission-specific hardeners.

In the end, it required a bit of kiting. Speed Tank Battleship.. weeeeee...

Smashing the supplier is one of the harder missions so that would be the reason.

Speed tanking is the way to go. Should take about 3 min. Proof.

(dual 250mm proteuses, I'm certain it can be done even quicker with a couple of machs, but I've been watching my armarr standing lately :P )
