...on when these forums will be fixed??

Eaten posts, BBH code parsing errors, HTML coding problems with evemails written in EvEgate that become unreadable in-game, these have gone on far too long. I'm not even talking about the "Ganked!!!" (404) errors - I'm talking just basic functionality.

Its extremely frustrating to have so many ongoing, unresolved technical errors, that ultimately hamper CCP's ability to interact with the community and vice versa. If the theme going forward is "iterations on old broken systems" it makes sense that having a working forum and communications system would be priority 101, so there's a functioning framework for all the other dialogue about everything else.

I'm sure there are players that have good things to say that have stopped contributing out of frustration.

I know its been asked before, but can a developer please step in and let us know what issue they are aware of, and what fixes are being worked on?

I am not sure whether developers know about all these problems, or only know of one, or what. Anything CCP can let us know that they know would be great, so we can get anything they've overlooked on the to-do list as well.

I know we copy / paste / back up habitually but its not a long-term solution. That doesn't help all the first-time posters who aren't yet aware just how bad these forums are functioning. These should be fixable errors on CCP's end, it would be great to know if and what they are working on fixing, or if its considered low-priority compared to actual in-game issues.

They won't give feedback because the feedback button brokeWhat?

This forum will remain the shi$t pile it is until they hire someone competent to program it and switch from this horrible open-source code they choose. As we have seen, the team responsible for this forum has shown real incompetence regarding forums. From the first forum iteration shutdown to the need to turn on https and remove all standard forum functions to the inability to quote with hyperlinks as it contains html snippets and the forum can't handle it to the gank pages which intentionally break the link.

Comes down to priorities. CCP doesn't consider this forum a priority as evidenced by the crappy state they released it. Dust users will bash this pos forum software severely I predict. Most console games have very nice & functional forums.

step 1
fix "DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-strict.dtd"
declaring transitional and linking to the strict DTD will send browsers into quirks mode

step 2
make sure all editing programs save in unix UTF-8 (windows utf-8 is complete ****)

step 3
make sure all data is converted or is natively utf-8 or change what is needed to deal with latin-1(or whatever) db data

step 4
run every page through the w3c validator and repair all warnings and errors

step 5
start addressing the actual failings and issues with the forum functionality

STEP 5 CAN NOT SUCCEED UNTIL THE FIRST 4 STEPS ARE ADDRESSED!!!

also I can't understand how you guys manage to get by with a single html header that just declares the html version
what about all the other html headers?

lol

just noticed the broken "likes given" counter hidden in the page source
if it was working it would appear above "likes received" under your avatar

It has been speculated that the web development team that spent something like 17 years in man hours building this was part of the 20% that was sacked.

Appropriate, If true.

My frustration is with not even knowing which problems, if any, they're working on. I know the "Ganked" problem is, a dev confirmed it was due out next patch, I believe, though that doesn't address all the problems that occur even when you CAN access the forums to begin with.

The forum post munching is pretty easily counterable, as long as you remember. Forgetting to copy before hitting post, and having it eat 5-10 minutes kinda bites though.

coding thing seems inconsistent. Sometimes it works; other times it doesn't.

Haven't noticed any other problems.

Yes, but again, saying that customers who have already been screwed of their time and effort once (first-timers may write a page long post and lose it because they take for granted the forum works properly) can learn and copy paste next time isn't really a "fix" , its just saying "deal with it".

Experienced forum warriors know better by now, my concern is for all those who don't come here much, who might be frustrated with what they find and be discouraged from contributing again. That doesn't build a community, it gets in the way of it...

I have absolutely no idea whether that is gibberish or an actual solution to the problem, but if it is, I hope CCP can hire you and put you to work right away!! You certainly have ME convinced... I know nothing about HTML or what is going on. All I know is what it feels like as a customer and user.

Gone?? You have verification of this?

I thought Ganked! was just their catchy way of displaying a 404 error (I don't even know what a 404 error is exactly but i know its like the most common thing that can go wrong on the interwebs...)

So wouldn't we still see Ganked! from time to time, unless they change the message?

They may have fixed the main issue contributing to the ganks, a source would be helpful here, but I find it hard to believe Ganked! is gone for good.....

400 codes are "error" messages:

400 -- Bad Syntax (i.e. the request from the user's browser was not understood)
401 -- Unauthorised (i.e. bad username/password)
403 -- Forbidden (i.e. go **** yourself)
404 -- Not Found (i.e. double check your link/URL, dumbass)

there's more, but these are generally "common" ones.

One of the bitter points of a good bittervet is the realisation that all those SP don't really do much, and that the newbie is having much more fun with what little he has. - Tippia

Thanks!! I feel much more informed now.

....but I doubt it's "Gone" unless I've missed some Dev blog or announcement. There will be still be downtimes, service work on the server, and other situations where it's been down in the past.
