Pilots;

Itsukame-Zainou Hyperspatial Inquiries, Ltd., in cooperation with our expeditionary group partners, has retrieved salvage and biomass from Drifter Hive zones with our operations beginning YC117.06. With the completion of our first series of such penetrations, and following the conclusion of the legal issues arising from other elements of our biomass recovery efforts, we began a new analysis, which has taken nearly half a year to prepare. This analysis has been substantially aided by the operations of the Arataka Research Consortium, whose Drifter Hive penetrations have been to date quite successful, and have provided us significantly more material.

Let us now address issues of legality, as this is an understandable concern. We’ve reviewed this with Zainou Biotech Legal Services, and our present understanding is as follows, based on Yulai Convention text provided by the DED.

Office of the Director of Operations wrote:
Rights to salvage are outlined in Article 8 of the Yulai Convention (Trade and Salvage). Specifically, Article 8 Section B explains that rights to salvage on destroyed vessels lie with the individual responsible for the destruction of the vessel, or the individual who makes first claim to the salvage upon its discovery.

Article 8 Section B (2) explains that rights to salvage do not include claims to biomass, and the responsibility for any persons, living or dead, discovered aboard wreckage lies with their immediate next of kin. If no competent next of kin exists, responsibility for those discovered lies with the government of their citizenship.

Article 8 Section B (2a) states that the Directive Enforcement Department can assume right to biomass in matters of interstellar security, when an investigation marked as such remains open, regardless of citizenship.

To our understanding, biomass is listed as an exception to standard salvage laws. While I would normally contest this given the DED’s apparent lack of concern with Capsuleer corpses, for purposes of our release Legal advised that we should not contest that point.

Per the terms of Article 8, Section B, we have naturally been unable to determine, much less communicate with, a next of kin of any Jove or Vigilant Tyrannos specimen recovered. Likewise, attempts to contact the Jove Directorate or the Vigilant Tyrannos have been unsuccessful. Lastly, to our knowledge, no DED investigation is on-going as relates to the bodies of the Jove or Vigilant Tyrannos. While there has been disclosure of a committee’s formation, the scope and nature of their deliberations remain unknown, and whether it constitutes an investigation for Yulai Convention purposes is unknown.

In the case of contact from the Jove Directorate, or disclosure of an on-going investigation for which these specimens would be material, we have requested that Zainou Biotech remand such materials as necessary to the Jove Directorate or DED.

With the legal matter addressed, the abstract of the attached release is provided. A link to the full report text follows.

Drifter Hive white paper wrote:

Jove and Hikanta Tyrannos corpses, along with associated hardware, have been recovered from multiple wormhole systems following a series of expeditions. These samples have been subjected to both non-destructive and destructive testing, and where necessary multiple damaged specimens have been used in the reconstruction of a composite image of the undamaged artefact.

Corpse analysis consisted of visual inspection, tomographic and sonographic studies, chemical analyses of thin-slice tissue samples, and gross autopsy with the aid of AIMED produced by Zainou Biotech and X-Sense. Recovered neural implantation was then studied further through compositional analysis and operational simulation in medical testing clones. This included a battery of standard sensory stimulation tests, alongside memory formation and logical diagnostics.

Investigation of the cryostasis chambers dubbed ‘canopics’ followed the same lines, with medical testing clones being subjected to the action those subsystems retrieved either intact or in a repairable state in order to determine the technology’s efficacy and methods of operation.

Subsequent to the completion of study, all remaining tissue and material samples have been remanded to the custody of Zainou Biotech for continued analysis. Additional samples have been recovered during the operations of the Arataka Research Consortium and Itsukame-Zainou Hyperspatial Inquiries, Ltd., and have likewise been surrendered to Zainou Biotech following the confirmation of little deviation from the major trends here identified.

The report that follows is somewhat longer than most reports we’ve released, and at stages quite technical. Please note that where possible we’ve attempted to present this as a white paper, but in many cases technical details were required to demonstrate the full complexity of the systems involved, and the thoroughness of the analysis.

I would also like to bring your attention to Appendix A. To the best of our ability, this constitutes a full and complete list of all pilots who have aided the Consortium and its precursor expeditionary group in penetrating Drifter facilities. I would also like to express personal thanks to the coordinator group of the Consortium for their diligence and capability, to the research team for their tireless work analyzing recovered materials, and again to the nearly two hundred pilots who have flown with us to this point. This report would not be possible without the tremendous and notable support of these many individuals.

In service and in thanks,

A well-detailed and deeply interesting study; indeed, our most assured way to discover more about the Tyrannos is to do all we can ourselves.

Great work to all involved.

Indeed, Uriel; my thanks to the research team!

If anyone has any questions, I'll try to address them, or have a research team member address them.

We of course still have several avenues of continued inquiry. For instance, we have only the barest understanding of the Tyrannos implant architecture, or what is implied by it. Similarly, we have very little to go off of with the Drifter Hive Elements aside from their memetic virulence, which is simply beyond any ability to analyze constructively. Lastly, there's the matter of that massive spatial distortion, which passingly resembles spatial rifts or stargate jumps, but on a scale that boggles the mind.

Needless to say, there's a lot more analysis to be done, and we don't have nearly enough data on some of it.

I notice that there are no mention whatsoever of intact Sleeper canopics and cadavers retrieved from non-Drifter Sleeper hives to draw comparisons from. Are there plans to enter W-space to retrieve these from Sleeper hives?

A Minmatar warship is like a rusting Beetle with 500 horsepower Cardillac engines in the rear, armour plating bolted to chassis and a M2 Browning stuck on top.

Pilots;

A small update to the original document. An earlier draft of section 1.2.3 slipped through the editing process. The intern in question has been dismissed. The new version is listed as YC118-02-01, in the original post and here.

Mr. Egivand;

The major issue we face is that Enclaves are usually quite resistant to damage. While there are reports of boardings, and clearly reports on Sleeper implant architecture originated somewhere, I'm not sure that's reliably within our capability. In this case, however, the Drifters have already done much of the work: the Enclaves in their hive systems are often broken open, and the canopics and cadavers are free-floating in space.

Further to the not insignificant practical hurdles, the differences in context between what the above study entailed and what you propose, Mr. Egivand, should be borne in mind.

Consider that those canopics found in the Hive systems are removed from their host Enclaves before any fleet arrives, and would be so regardless of our intervention. Regardless of the state of their attendant machinery, the Enclaves in wormhole space remain inviolate. For all we know, removing an intact canopic in such an Enclave may not even contain a cadaver--until it was forcibly removed for the sake of drawing comparisons, at least.

So you are saying that there is a fear that by removing an intact canopic from an Anoikis Enclave your organisation might be committing a murder?

Against the recognition of drifters as a threat.
Since they do not bear the destruction of the world.
They killed the evil which was in the Empire.
They opened fire only in response.
If Jamyl Sarum was alive, she thanked them for their salvation from evil and end this war.

Drifters are not evil drifters a weapon of God, is the salvation of God !

In this world you can not influence events.

We can only accept this or leave. (с) Best friend

Mr. Egivand; hm. Personally, I'll admit my concerns were logistical, but Mr. Moros brings up a fair point. I would want to see if any of the data from the collection of Sleeper implants suggests we need to actively raid Sleeper enclaves that are still functioning, to be honest.

Grooz; uh. You know they're still firing, right?

Has anything besides biomass (cadavers) been retrieved? The OP implies by wording that it is so. But I see nothing else presented.

Soldarius;

You'll notice that chapter 2 is focused on analysis of the cryostasis pods our onboard systems identify as 'Canopics.' We had also originally planned an analysis of Vigilant Tyrannos implant architecture, but have found that more time was needed for that analysis.

In the interest of not delaying the report any further, we've released these two sections.

You'll also notice a brief discussion of some other potential subjects for research earlier in this thread.
