Virus From Eve?

My laptop is brand new & has experienced zero problems. Ever since installing EVE, strange applications have been installed, I am constantly DC'ing from EVE (& no other game or site), my browsers are littered with pop-ups, & this (see pictures below) has happened to my launcher.

If my system has been this badly infected from playing EVE for two days this is going to be an extremely short lived subscription & I would expect reimbursement of the subscription. I sincerely hope this is not the case.

Does anyone know what these symptoms might be the reaction to? Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

If eve were causing problems, GD would be a whine fest a newbie player can't even imagine. Eve doesn't interfere with your browser at all, so unless you installed EVE from an unofficial source I'd bet against eve being the problem. I suggest you start by looking at those strange applications that have been installed, since eve doesn't install anything wierd.

You can try the technical support forum. They might be able to give you more detailed help.

Edit, also it's a good idea to block out your account names just as a matter of basic security.

My choice of pronouns is based on your avatar. Even if I know what is behind the avatar.

That's not from Eve, the launcher is browser based so any malware on your computer may affect the launcher.

As Iria Ahrens has already stated, please block out your account names.

There was a time when hacking Eve accounts was commonplace.

Beat me to it. OP this is your problem, you've got Capricornus Malware on your machine; you didn't get it from Eve though, that I can guarantee.

Sorry to hear but I've never experienced any virus or malware from the official eve download.

Earlier restore points or safe mode virus scan has helped me in the past. (Do at your own risk)

Have you been using the in-game browser?

If so... that could be the culprit. The in-game browser has terribad built-in protection.

Restart your computer in Safe Mode (without connections) and...
- delete all temp files in your computer which include, but are not limited to; cookies, dlls, browsing history, etc
- run your anti-virus
- clean up your registry
- run a system defragmentation.

If all else fails... go nuclear and reformat the harddrive.

Yes in fact I have. This is absolutely unacceptable that an IG application would sabotage my system like this. The website posted with a fix seems to have helped greatly, & I thank the community for that & particularly NovaCat13. However the ads are still appearing in the EVE launcher.

Also check your browser (not in game) for unwanted extensions.

Try not to be an idiot, mmkay? This qualifies as the dumbest advice I've ever seen on the internet. Try to know what you're talking about before you advise someone to reformat a drive. I'd report this post, but I don't think there's a Maxi-Ignoramous category...maybe this particular case should inspire a new category.

OP - Before you accuse a tried and true company of historical significance (actually could wipe out a boot.ini with one blow) in the annals of gaming, see if you recall installing some neat little third party application all the cool kids use, that is gracious enough to wrap half a dozen other drive kidnapping applications within itself then happily plant the package on your "pristine" drive.

I haven't, I checked all of my recently installed programs & I run two anti-virus systems. I do not torrent, visit the deep web (on this machine anyway), or do anything extraordinary outside of gaming or editing on this device. The possibility of the less than efficient in-game browser as the culprit seems to be the most plausible & I am solidifying my diagnosis as such. It was the game's fault.

Your smarmy & utterly annoying retorts are unwelcome & unbecoming. Either contribute or do not respond.

The fix described by the linked website worked for the most part, however the problem still exists in the launcher. The ads still appear, even after uninstalling & re-downloading the launcher.

Thoughts?

10+ years using the IG browser... never had an issue. Apart from it crashing and being VERY slow/outdated.

Id be more careful what websites you go to...

Edit: Just tried going to a malware website using the IG browser, and avast AND malwarebyte boht caught it. Even though i was using the IG browser. I suggest you reinstall your OS and get some proper anti-virus/malware protection. No the free stuff doesn't cut it.

Been around since the beginning.

It wasn't the game's fault.

But if you really want to believe it was despite the veteran experience telling you it wasn't, no one will miss you.

The only thing I ever used the IG browser for was Googling ship fittings.
