I've noticed that in some of the starter corporations, certain individuals are running scams. Is this what we want the new players to meet when they start on their new eve career? I have nothing against beeing scammed, I am a veteran. Probably would be suprised if you managed to do so. But I want to hear Your opinions on letting People scam in channels dedicated to the newbros.

I think newbie systems, including all tutorial systems are off limits to this behavior.

I definitely feel than newbies should at least be warned in some way that, "This isn't your MOMMA'S MMO" before going out into the world. That most of the protections players come in expecting, just are not present in Eve.

My choice of pronouns is based on your avatar. Even if I know what is behind the avatar.

Being a new player, I'm kind of torn on this one.

First, I'm not certain how CCP would even protect against this. It would be another "report it after it happens" kind of enforcement and I'm fairly sure they don't need to be full time cops but they might be willing to take this on.

Second, it's a part of the game as accepted by the players. Sure, almost every other MMO whips out the ban stick for this kind of stuff, but here in EVE, it seems to be accepted along with the rest of the game... so player beware!

What I might point out is that a little smarter 'training aid' could be developed. Like the first time you click "Transfer ISK to another player" it pops up a little video from "Yohann, your friendly banker trainer" warning about scams and such from other players, maybe even offering to detail how they work. This could be extended to other newbie oops maneuvers like improper fitting. "Hi, I'm Evalyn, your fitting trainer. I've noticed you're trying to put a hull repair module on your Venture... let's talk...", etc. etc. etc.

So, I guess, no, don't protect us, but do educate us.

A scam tutorial should be made. Make the player think everything is all sunshine and isk. Then when they least expect it lay the hammer down. But give them hints to quit while they're ahead and warning in orange and red the whole time through. Those who arent gullible wont even hit the initial accept button when 'Steve the Scanner' initiates the convo.

Signatures wer cooler when we couldn't remove them completely.

Evalyn has no idea how to fit a ship if she thinks it isn't ok to put a hull rep on a venture. Or any other ship for that matter. Scam awareness is a solid. Fitting advise not so.

Just one of the many reasons why the NPC noob corps are poison. The average level of advice quality in those chats is somewhere between laser cane and hacking myrmidon. It's a terrible environment for new players in basically every respect - poor advice, blind leading the blind, active scamming, and your corp-mates have little to no interest in you.

If you are a new player and reading this, the takeaway is find a good player corp! Get out of that awful npc corp ASAP.

Cara is 100% correct , npc corp chat is about as useful as the voice chat for call of duty on Xbox.

You can also get back at the scammers by petitioning that you were inside the starter systems when you got scammed. And they'll get banned.

Because the rule of not messing with newbies in the starter systems still stands, and spamming scams on a chat channel gives them no control over who takes the bait and where.

So, scamming the people in rookie corps is ok, with the exception if the scam is taken by a rookie inside the rookie starter system, in which case he or she can report and the scammer will get banned.

Scammer has no control over who will click on his scam, whether it's a rookie in a rookie system or not.

So basically, go for it if you wan to scam, but unlike scams in Jita, you risk getting banned. Risk and reward... well, maybe not so much reward, considering how much ISK newbies can possibly start with. So, recalculating risk/reward.... = DUMB.

Is what I'm sayin'.

I just think that the starter corp should have somewhat the same failsafes as the rookie systems. You are just as much a rookie, when you start out on the first day in a ibis, as you are when you say hi in that corp chat the first time.
Having a scam toturial is a brilliant idea +1

Scamming should be allowed anywhere. Spamming should not. Accounts should have a biomass limit on them so I don't have to keep blocking people over and over again because they biomassed and created a new toon.

If brute force isn't working, you're just not using enough.

Please Note: Any advice given comes with the caveat that nothing will be suitable for every situation.

Though I agree that some from of limit on biomassing could be useful it should be set at a quite high number. There are afterall other reasons then the 'perpetual scamming' to use the biomass that are legitimate.

I'd be interested to read some of them, would you care to elaborate?

That sounds like it's simple part of the game. I'm new as you can get. And from what I can tell, this is a dog eat dog world up in this B .
