wine versions back as far as 1.6.2 (what I used to run and earliest I tested) "work", but only for a few frames after selecting character, then they crash.

This was a very recent issue introduced by an Eve patch I believe around 2015-12-10 (e.g. https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=459745 )

Recent wine version performance really sucks. Like 50-70% the framerate as 1.6.x with 2-3x the CPU usage for the same number of clients.

Does anyone know what changed around 1.8 in wine that "fixed" whatever the Eve patch around 2015-12-10 broke?

Has anyone found a workaround that allows earlier wine versions to be used? Is anyone currently using an earlier wine version than 1.8 successfully, not realizing something's broken? :P

I'm currently doing 1.7.55 and running fine, other than the outstanding beta map problems that still crop up from time to time.

my forays into 1.8 were pretty horrible, relatively unstable rather than just ****** frame rate.

wine-1.7.52-328-gbf44934 here

I use a lot of patched stuff so I don't touch when it's working...

So yeah, apparently it's actually somewhere in the late 1.7.x series where it starts working, but I get goofy cursor corruption with the late 1.7.x series that isn't fixed until 1.8. Ugh

Genuine Question: Why not use the latest 1.9.X version of WINE?
