Hi,

So since everybody is flying comet (wonder why ? you shouldn't) and that these are equally good with blaster and rail fit, I'm looking for a frigate that can enter novice, that isn't pirate and that's a great counter to navy comet.

A comet.

Basically:

Blaster comet: Everything with more speed, range control and/or a TD. It's just better on paper than in reality. Defang it by scram kiting, win.

Rail comet: Similar fits (dualweb/dualweb+td hookbill; artillery firetail) have a chance but if your opponent knows what he's doing he'll kill you - the comet just outperforms on everything (ehp, damage, application) and the speed disadvantage is too small. Vigil navy is a possibility and if you go fulll cheese you can roll the dice and kill it with a navy griffin, although again, unless you run two webs, a competent pilot will not allow you into even 50% of your jam falloff, so the dicerolling increases. If the jam hits it's gouda time though.
Navy crucifier has potential as well but (imho) by far a 'killer'.

If you go T1: Links, Snakes drugs and a dualweb armor breacher may succeed, armor dualweb kestrel probably too slow still, neut tristan may do it.

Oddly enough a blaster comet with no scram but two webs may overwhelm it. You get similar tank but more damage. Fights tend to be over so quickly that people are troubleshooting why their strategy - pulling range - doesn't work and don't notice they're not pointed.

If you really want to kill someone: Make him come into you, this gives you a far better chance.

Ruthlessness is the kindness of the wise.

A Cruor. Neut him out and his guns won't work. Kill the drones and then take all the time you want to kill him. Unless backup arrives.

i've had some success against Comets with a dual-prop Dramiel. But that's a pirate frigate.

I'm guessing a dual web Hookbill would be nasty for a Comet to fight (they're very nasty to face in a Dramiel).

Against blaster comet, I have had some luck with entering plexes in neut tristans. They will try to catch you on warp in, and not get away before they are sucked dry. You will be deep in armor, but then their damage stops. Don't forget to focus on killing off the three drones first though, that cost me my victory once, as it will take some time to chew through the tank of the comet (if hulltanked).

A rail comet would prob. stay out of neut range and kill you though.

So if you know they fly blaster fit, a neut tristan will work

Use a TD condor, and start at range, don't slide Into them. Kill the drones first and slowly peck them to death with missles.

Countering a generic comet is tough, because you are really looking for a counter for two ships at once: a rail scram kiter, and an in your face blaster ship with strong single web range dictation. If ships are well balanced - you shouldn't be able to build a frig that will work against 100% of comet fits.

With that in mind, I do prefer to dive comets with 2 web hookbills. Dez and Lucy have outlined some good options.

If you engage with a 2 web frig, and decide you cant win, then most times you can escape. I think this is a bonus that's overlooked. If I can win 50% of my comet engagements (vs blaster comets), and escape from 40% of the others (rail comets), then my win ratio should be 5:1. In a solo engagement that's about as good as you can ask for.

Again - watch for dual web comets as they seem to have become more popular.

TD in this case is a Tracking Disruptor. Tactical Destroyers are usually referred to as T3D.
