I just noticed I have 2000 AUR and I've no idea why. I never bought AUR. Was it given out in an event sometime in the past?

Its many years old that CCP gave it as a gift. Some have 2K others have up to 4.5K. It depended on which was your most SP character on that account that was active during the give away. But yes its likely more than 3 or 4 years ago now when AUR was first introduced iirc. Times and timelines arent my specialty though.

in 2011 there was a this is eve ad campaign.
in this campaign players where encouraged to upload an share, through social media, screenshots and video's.
there where several stretch goals involving numbers of shares.
the rewards where increasing numbers of aurum.

5500 aurum in total was given out to all active pilots around the time of Incarna.
