Before you spam go do your research trust me I have, I've spent day reading over fits and certain strategies for using the vindicator.

However I'm running into two issues.

Issue A) My alphas aren't even a 1/3 of my total volley meaning i'm only applying at best 700DPS, but it's very incosistent.

Issue B) Frigates...I saw where in many videos people had a domi on grid with sentries that insta popped the frigs...My toon has max Drone/Gun skills both of them and for the life of them they can't pop the frigs even if I target and try to blap them before they start moving much.

So I've come here to ask what could I possibly be effing up? I'm moving into the exact center of the room, the ships are spawning so close they bump my ship.

I've also considered that perhaps with the mixed profile of thermal/kinetic damage from blaster ammo that it's just not gonna work for serpentis rats like it would Guristas.

Any input would be nice.

FYI: The Vindicator is known for damage per second, not volley strike.

Also... what are you shooting exactly? If you are shooting smaller targets then their size is going to mitigate some of the incoming damage (see: battleship sized guns have a signature resolution of 400... this means it is going to have the greatest chance to apply full damage against ships with a signature radius of 400 or greater. Frigates generally have a signature radius of 50 to 100, at best).

If they are at close range you are going to run into the issue of tracking. Sentries and Battleship sized weapons have low tracking and thus apply damage against smaller ships quit bad at very close range. Your only recourse is to prevent them from moving. Completely. Which is still pretty hard to do even with 90% strength webs.

This is on top of the aforementioned sig resolution vs sig radius issue.


That's the issue right there.

If you want to apply better damage, you are going to have to pull range. A lot of range.

My experience is that even the best tracking sentry drones (Gardes) need to be at least 20 to 30km away from what they are shooting.
And pretty much all weapons operate best when at the edge of their optimal range (exception: missiles)


Guristas have pretty much the same damage/weakness profile as Serpentis.

I did not see what site you plan to run.

Shield Vindicator with blasters works great in Forsaken Hubs, if you web frigates they pop quite quickly, also Vasp IIs help.

Fit was something like this, can mail you later specifics if interested, am at work now.

High: Blasters
Mids: large shield booster, Tank, 2x web
Lows: 3x magstabs, tracking enhancers

My only issue has been cap, guns and tank suck you dry quick.

Kronos worked better, had no cap problems, for slightly less DPS.

... why were you flying a vindi without a web ...

I thought it would be a non issue too, but unfortunately it is. Think of 8 guns + reps against 4 guns + T2 resists on Kronos, with utility highs. If you manage to run sites with a friend than you split incoming damage, and you are fine. But by all means, give it a try.

Vindicator is great ship but incoming SP injectors are game changers. IMO the worst thing about Marauders was very long training time so they were not "cost-effective". Now even new players can purchase SP injectors and get into Marauders fast. That way Marauders become affordable option as level 4 mission runners. I foresee next round of Pirate Battleships price drop.

Are you shield tanking this beauty?

This has nothing to do with factions or speed tanking but only at the designated orbit range for the rat in question. Every rat has a set orbit range, if it is closer to you than that orbit range it will fly straight away till it hits orbit range. If it's further away it's more interesting, rats with a very short orbit range (frigates mostly) will fly almost straight at you, making them easy targets. Rats with a wider orbit range will come at a wider angle.
Not sure how to explain this properly in english, not my mother tongue, but imagine the orbit of the rat as a circle around your ship, the rat will fly towards the edge of the circle on approach.
