Solo alternative to EVE Online

In case you ever wondered how EVE Online would be as a single player game, it turns out that there is precisely something along those lines already existing, and even though the game hasn't reached its final version yet (still under development), the versions available on its website for the three OSes are already playable enough.

It's called Naev and it's an incredible unheard of gem.

Here is a video:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=phKX9vfgQ-4

Here is the home website:
http://blog.naev.org/

The official description of the game:
Naev is a 2D space trading and combat game, taking inspiration from the Escape Velocity series, among others.

PS: I am merely suggesting a recreational alternative to EVE, my goal is not to make EVE players stop playing this latter and start playing Naev, you can consider that this post is just for informational purposes (sharing).

EVE is not a single player game?

We'd better let 90% of the playerbase know this!

What was the BBS variant of the game called? Something like Trade Wars, I think. You may want to consider X³: Reunion as well if you are looking for a solo player alternative to fill idle time. I've got a copy somewhere, but haven't played it in depth.

Yes, indeed the X series, but they are much time consuming. I was suggesting something lighter, not to fully replace EVE.

Solo Game yes, in anyway an alternative to EVE no.

This is much closer to a solo Alternative.

EVE is not nor will it hopefully ever be a shooter style game.

the only thing that simulates the single player experience in eve is beating yourself in the head with a cast iron frying pan, lighting your self on fire and jumping out a 40th story window

and that's just the industrial part of the game

you don't want to know what pvp involves

Transcendence looks cool, thanks for the suggestion, but I am running Linux, and Naev runs natively on Linux, while Transcendence is apparently made for Windoze...

I hate emoticons. But every time I don't use them somebody misses the sarcasm.

So anyway you're joking with that game, aren't you?

My soul started to bleed a minute into that video.

Ah, I see the sarcasm now. I haven't decided yet if I was going to invest time into that game, just played through the tutorial's first part and found it cool, it reminded me of another game, moagg (which stands for: mother of all gravity games), also a Linux native game.

This obviously isn't serious. Everyone knows Linux doesn't have games. Linux is just a type of firewall and/or router isn't it? Maybe a webserver? Oh, you're talking about browser games?

There arnt enough space trading games out there any more... actualy there never were. But the Escape Velocity series was very good. The last one; EV:Nova is probably still avalibale as shareware somwhere. Its cirtainly still very playable.

Not that I am surgesting any one google it. It would be a shame if they tried it, found it to be a lot of fun and then had to buy it. ... Yup that would be awfull for them.

proves that even asteroids can have better sound effects than eve

how to fix eve: 1) remove ECM 2) rename dampeners to ECM 3) add new anti-drone ewar for caldari 4) give offgrid boosters ongrid combat value
