I was talking with a couple corp mates when I came up with an idea. i remember reading in one of the eve 'science' articles that the ship is in a bubble that even squeezes between light when in warp. In that case we shouldn't see anything while in warp. So what if when a ship is traveling faster than 1AU/sec the 'inside planet warp tunnel effect is always active'. It would be a neat visual effect, but wouldn't affect player's vision as they land on grid (ie lowsec/null sec camp or bubble). Thoughts?

Only if it's any speed in warp, not just 1 au. You can't see the blob you're warping onto until the moment you're loackable.Cool

You shouldn't really see anything at all just because of the velocity. Everything in front of you would blueshift far, far, far into the gamma range and beyond and be completely invisible. Everything behind would be invisible simply because you are outrunning the light emissions. But blackness everywhere doesn't look cool, so you won't see it in a game and rightly so.

in plainer terms; just have the black 'inside planet' warp tunnel effect whenever in warp, not just when going through a planet

What I meant was to not screw over good visuals because of fake science.

And here I thought the pods software was presenting you with a rendered environment gathered from multiple sources ranging from camera drones to em sensitive sensors and stuff, and in cases like warping it calculates a most likely case scenario and feeds it into our brains in order to maintain optimal battle-readiness, including sound simulations.

Woohoo for technobabble! Bonus points when it actually makes sense, bonus bonus points when it makes sense AND makes game development easier :)
