My wine installation of Eve broke while installing.... or rather trying to install the new launcher. So I wiped everything out and went back to the Mac version of Eve to see how it compares.

What a difference.

WINE version graphics are more beautiful, the game runs far more smoothly, objects have finer textures, the fans on my iMac don't kick off every time I start gate jumping.

Mac version has a better stargate animation, and the new launcher is pretty slick.

It's time for CCP to overhaul the Mac client. It should not be possible for someone to self-install the windows client on a Mac and get better everything almost than a professionally built and sold software package delivers.

I understand that is in the works, but this has been this way since I started playing two years ago. Mac version is dim, poorly textured, slow, and runs hot. Wine version is fast, beautiful, and much easier on the hardware.

Whoever makes this Cider thing should be ashamed of themselves. It doesn't even DirectX 9 correctly.

This is brought up in like every Mac thread - even by me.

Cider was sold off - from personal research - I am not sure it is still being developed on.

Wine on the other hand is amazing and getting updates all the time. They get these updates generally from third parties like cross-over.

CCP just needs to find a new wine bottle with developers who can make things happen.

Guys from Crossover are making a great job inside their app and also for external projects (They've made official Mac versions (using Wine) for World of Tanks and World of Warships)
