Hello.

I've last played Eve ~4 years ago and when I did play I just scratched the surface of what the game has to offer (4m skill points).

I used to explore in my Drake in high-sec and I was aiming for a Tengu. Does the latter still offer a balance between decent exploration and combat stats or do I have to aim for something else now?

What about WH exploration, what are its requirements?

FInally, if I play for more than 3 months, I may consider PvP.

Is there a ship or a combitation of skills I should aim for that can cover these 3 things I've mentioned?

Thanks.

tengu is still good, look into the stratios though, pretty much made for wormholes.

the only -must have- skill for pvp is "Propulsion Jamming" .

(theorycrafting) wondering if it is possible to ditch the point and just continuously ram a ship to keep it pinned.

My choice of pronouns is based on your avatar. Even if I know what is behind the avatar.

This CCPs attempt to provide a summary of changes for returning and current players. It is very good so I recommend giving it a look.

Why wait for 3 months before you consider PvP.

It should say: If I play for more than 3 minutes, I may consider PvP.

As, anybody can PvP, to some extend of course.

A new player can be part of a fleet and put his / her share into it, but solo 1v1 will be hard.
So, what type of PvP do you mean?

Also, keep in mind 1 thing:

Ships (with a certain fit) are tools designed for a certain job. Sure, you can make a swiss army knife fitted ship, it will be able to do multiple things, but it won't be as good as the proper designed tool for it.

*Shamelessly stole Cara's Swiss army knife example from another thread, PP*

So, each ship has it's purpose. And yes, T3C are "versatile" in that you can put on different subsystems and fit it different for multiple different "tools", where as other ships are more designed for 1 function.

So, you likely will end up with a PvP ship and a PvE ship and/or other ships....

Theory confirmed by the Niarja and Uedama dwellers.

You don't need to actively go out and gank people, but you really should consider PvP, as chances are it will find you, whether you consider it or not.

Now, as for ships - I don't recommend limiting yourself to just one. In a way, it's today like it has always been: If you stick to one race at first, and flesh out medium sized/cruiser skills, you'll have something for most occasions.
If you train one races cruiser, weapon system and supports to V, you will have access to a wide array of ships, and can then for example branch out to Electronic Warfare, Logistics, T3 Cruisers or pirate faction Cruisers in a reasonable amount of time. At that point, you will probably know which ones you need.

All races have viable ships for Exploration, PvP and PvE. Some appear to be better suited for the one or the other, but that may change in the frame of a few months.

How many skill points that you trained up has literally nothing to do with how much of the game that you experienced.

You could have just logged on just enough to add skills to your queue and never even undocked, or you could have PvPed for 6 hours per evening every evening for 3 months strait and become an excellent PvPer.

I stress this because way too many new players come here talking about skill points as if they were like levels in other games and they just are not at all similar. You really really have to stretch very far to correlate skill points in this sandbox of a game with levels in other linear games.

This is possibly the single most important point I wish that I could make to anyone coming to this game from pretty much any other MMO out there. Skill points in this game have almost nothing to do with your ability to: participate in, be proficient at, or create content in this game.

If you are waiting 3 months for skills to train before you PvP I can just save you the trouble and expense and tell you to just go find another game. Because here is what typically happens to players that wait for skill points to train, one of two things. Either at the end of 3 months you still feel like you need more skill points and delay it further and then get bored with the game and leave. Or you try PvP, get your ass handed to you and the proceed to blame it on your skill points and post a rage quit thread in here about how the SP system in this game is unfair and leave.

One major thing that has changed is that the Tengu is no longer allowed in many of the high sec combat sites. So if your goal is to run sites in high sec then a T3 cruiser is not really a viable option anymore.
