Sansha ship questions

I've been looking into the Sansha's Nation ships (specifically the Phantasm for solo ganking), and I was wondering if pulse or beam lasers are typically fit? I've also been wondering this about regular Amarr ships, as well as the Blood Raider ships. What are the pros/cons? I know the tracking difference, but I'm a bit new to lasers and not quite sure which is more useful.

It used to be a no brainer that you always fit pulse for PVP but that has changed, beams are often viable too. The following assumes you are not sniping.

Sansha ships in particular can rock beams and not suffer too much as beams track well for long range guns, so combined with the hull tracking bonus they do well.

Succubus is a 50/50 pulse or beams, people tend to prefer one or the other.

Phantasm works with both, though generally people use pulse with a couple range rigs so they can hit to ~30km with Scorch.

Nightmare is always pulse.

Normal Amarr ships:

Frigs generally can work with either pulse or beams, depending on what engagement method you go for (beams for kite, either for scram kite, pulse for brawl). Slicer works with both for kiting, people generally prefer pulse though due to the range bonus.

Cruiser is generally pulse, again utilise Scorch, without the Sansha hull tracking bonus beams can struggle to track, and Sorch pulse can fairly easily cover point range.

Battleships again is pulse.

Blood Raiders:

Due to the web bonus they can fit beams and hold ships off out of their range. Can also work with pulse and rig for range. Again the cruiser or battleship normally has sufficient range with Scorch pulse to only use them.

Regarding the Phantasm specifically, as I said above it can work with both. There's some nice fits to try at Failheap:

Better than BC (RIP) for fitting advice, sadly it is not as active as it used to be.

To OP, check Dalts response, he pretty much covered everything that you needed to know.

For bs beams are allmost exclusively used for sniping or shooting very slow targets at non brawl ranges if fittings allow. Keep in mind that in the medium segment, beams outdmg pulses.
