Need some advice on fits for stratios WH exploration

So I'm getting bored with level 4 missions in highsec and decided I wanted to try out some wormholes. I've bought a stratios but I can't seem to decide how to fit it for wormhole exploration. I'm thinking of running data/relic sites, and want to be able to defend myself. I haven't run any data/relic sites yet so I'm really unsure on how to fit it. I am well aware that I will lose the ship, but that's how you learn, right.

Personally i prefer an astero to the strat for exploration in wh, it can gtfo easier and can still hunt other explorers well, you rarely want to try and defend yourself when wh exploring as their friends are never far away, its also cheaper to lose!
Btw youmWILL lose ships exploring in wh, just accept it and choose your hull based on what you are willing to lose, nothing wrong with T2 explo frigs either as they are pretty much disposable.

But to your original question, mids for hacking modules and prop mod, lows for armor tank, highs for cloak and neuts. Add drones for flavour

Thank you for your reply :) I just recently got back and was going to try out a fit before I quit 8 months ago. This is what was fitted:

High:

Medium Compact Gremlin Energy Neutralizer
Medium Compact Gremlin Energy Neutralizer
Medium Compact Gremlin Energy Neutralizer
Covert Ops Cloaking Device II
Sisters Core Probe Launcher

Mid:

Federation Navy 10MN Afterburner
Warp Scrambler II
Balmer Series Tracking Disruptor I
Small Capacitor Booster II
Stasis Webifier II

As you can see, the mids are ganky, two of them should be exchanged for data/relic modules, but what about the third?

low:

Drone Damage Amplifier II
Reactive Armor Hardener
1600mm Steel Plates II
Energized Adaptive Nano Membrane II
Energized Adaptive Nano Membrane II

Wasn't sure about the steel plates, but this is the fit I found 8 months ago and was going to test. So, haven't tested it yet :)

Rigs:

Medium Trimark Armor Pump II
Medium Trimark Armor Pump II
Medium Trimark Armor Pump II

What should I change?

And I see your point on the Astro being cheaper, that''s a solid point which I might take you up on :)

If you're going to run rat-less sites - get Astero. Properly fit it can do pretty much anything, including ghost sites blowing in the face. Use Stratios If you want to spank sleepers (whether 1st wave only, or some combat sites, or w/e) - but then again most people would suggest other ships for that.

In either case, make sure you have mobile depot to refit on-fly instead of half-assing fits.

Well, a tiny bit slower assuming proper rigging skills. Though obviously for more pve oriented approach active tank makes more sense on Stratios.

use an astero, that's all you need in wh space, well any space for exploration. Use dscan a lot and watch for probes. At some point you will get caught no matter what ship you use, so may as well go smaller/cheaper.
Jump in to our pub chat (bart pub) and have a chat with either night or mason, they pretty helpful and this is their main occupation, they will be glad to offer lots of advice.

thats a hunting fit meant for shutting down cap reliant t3's and such.
its very good at that mind ,
I have a similar one myself and its fantastic (if slow) for pvp and could certainly defend itself if you like your exploration risky.

granted though it can be mobbed fairly easily so dont think you can tank the world

Thank you so much for all the great responses guys. I will keep my Stratios and get a mobile depot so I can switch between builds. But I will also buy an Astero and actually start exploring with it until I get the hang of it.

Can you guys recommend any good fits there? Someone mentioned that it can't run rat occupied sites, but aren't most sites rat inhabited? I've only been to 5-6, but they were all filled with rats.

Only Sleeper Data/Relic sites have rats (unless something's changed that I'm not aware of?), if you run normal pirate sites in C1-C3's (and they appear only in C1-C3 wormholes) you'll only have to worry about getting dropped on by another player. You'll see in the name of the site if it's a pirate/sleeper site (will have Sansha/Angel/Guristas/etc.)

Whenever I do wormhole exploration I generally take the Astero cause of it's defensive capability/awesome looks :)

I usually fit it as such:

[Astero, Exploration]

Highs:
Covert Ops Cloak II
Sister's Core Probe Launcher + Sister's Core Probes

Mids:
AB/MWD (pilot's choice based off skills/fitting restrictions, AB will work if scrammed and no sig increase/cap reduction)
Relic Analyzer
Data Analyzer
Misc. mid slot

Lows:
Damage Control II
Small Ancillary Armor Repairer + Paste
Energized Adaptive Nano Membrane II
Misc. low slot

Drones:
Hobgoblin II x5
Warrior II x5
EC-300 x5

Rigs:
Usually some combination of scanning rigs + inertia rigs. (i.e. Better scan strength, relic analyzer boost, Low Friction Nozzle thingy)

The 'Misc.' slots are dependent on how you want to fly it. For the Mids, either a scanning upgrade, or a Warp Scram to kill any explorers. Since nullsec data sites don't always pay well you could drop the data analyzer for a scanning upgrade and have a scram in your other slot.
The Low can be either a Drone Damage Amplifier II for dps vs explorers or an Inertia rig to bail out faster.

Basically if it's anything other than a T2 Cov Ops explorer or another Astero, you're gonna want to bail as you can't take it on. I went with the Ancil Repper cause it's cheap, and since the 'oh s**t' moments don't last very long (cause you either make it out or die) it'll give you good repping ability while you need it.

Hope this helps, and good luck o7
