An open letter to the fine agents of CODE

Dear Members of CODE,

I hope this letter finds you in good health and enjoying your experience in New Eden, that aside.

I am a bit confused and I must confess disappointed over my treatment in Uedama. For over a week now, in pursuit of the NoN Dharma, I have made the long and sometimes hazardous journey to Uedama. I have made it a point to use autopilot and I have warped from gate to gate and station to station, taking great care to linger at each point. In fact, once in desperation I simply orbited several stations for extended periods of time, while doing so I went for tea paying absolutely no attention to the screen. I believe that any of this behavior rises to the level of bot aspirant if my understanding of the CODE is correct.

Yet, despite my sincere efforts, I have been offered no GF in local, as is your custom, nor have I been asked to purchase a mining permit or even been given the pleasure of being told “calm down miner” much less seeing the light that would precede my return to the station. I am in fact, feeling a bit cheated by the lackluster performance of “local law enforcement” and this despite the fact that I am aware that CODE agents are in the system...are you having coffee and dough nuts? Why have you forsaken your charge?

Certainly all of my actions, at least when taken together, must constitute at least a minor infraction of the CODE.

I have asked a few people about this apparent lack of interest on behalf of the agents enforcing the CODE and have been told that it is related to the ship I am flying. In accordance with the NoN Dharma I only fly rookie ships with no fit. I told the people that I spoke to that this could not be the case as on multiple occasions I have heard agents state that profit was not a motive for their action, nor was simply griefing other players; rather, their actions were the manifestation of a genuine desire to rid high sec of bot aspirant behavior.

Yet, despite my best efforts, I remain autopiloting, and circling stations in Uedma with nary a blink on my com, or the rewarding BOOM of my hull. What does a person have to do to get ganked these days? I must say that from what I have read James 315 would be most distressed and perhaps even ashamed of your behavior, I hope you take immediate action to remedy your short comings or at least make your actions align with your stated intentions.

I trust now that this sordid state of affairs has been brought to your attention that you will take all needed action to alleviate this dereliction of your stated duty.

Thank you for your suggestion, I am not certain that it addresses my concern, but having animal friends certainly is a great comfort to a great many people.

I must admit, I was pretty surprised to open C&P and see a thread about CODE.

Er... how do you imagine you're masquerading as a bot aspirant when bots are not commonly found in rookie ships?

If you were going to pretend to be, say, a police officer, you would probably start with a uniform, right?

Interesting point sir, thank you.

So my behavior does not rise to the level of bot aspirant? Perhaps I have misunderstood the CODE in this manner.
From my understanding the use of autopilot and being consistently AFK is in fact bot aspirant behavior, no masquerade even as I type this I am not interacting with Eve in any manner. Please advise me if my understanding is incorrect.

Or perhaps the CODE is simply not applicable to rookie ships? If that is the case I will happily concede the point to you.

if you go to the gates in Uedama you will find their alts scanning cargo ships for fat loot , the code and permit bull has gone right out the airlock at this point, unless they are waiting out timers in stations when they will randomly post line like "anti-gank fail again" or or other per worked out lines, almost bot like in a way

You must be in error, the proud agents of CODE are above such shallow concerns as loot and anti-ganking theirs is a mission to restore order hence the name "New Order" you simply must be incorrect. Certainly their sacrifice of life and ship serves a greater purpose.. I have often considered these fine pilots to be have a kindred spirit with the NoN Sangha, willing to die for the greater good.

They even have made kind suggestions to me here in order to further my experience "get a dog or something" who could possibly find fault with their noble intentions.

I am certain that either they will enlighten me to my misunderstanding of the CODE or correct the situation in Uedama. Obviously it is only a minor oversight on their part.

You would not believe the great lengths they go to these days to secure their loot. I think it most resembles a trapeze act: code and Co. have started sacrificing one of their own freighters piloted by a no-name alt so that the internet-famous looter can escape with the goods. Truly a wonder to behold. Their hypocrisy is deep and really makes their words in local ring shallow.

I'm not into passive resistance, quite the opposite in fact, but I have to say this is an outstanding post. :D

Actually, the 2nd most common bot of old was the courier mission running bot if I recall correctly and level 1 courier missions can be complete in a rookie ship. So he is behaving like a bot.

As is often the case in matters of space lawyering, either poor reading skills or stubborn ignorance are to blame. The situation discussed here is clearly covered in the New Halaima Code of Conduct and even a short evening of studying this would have negated any of this, may I say, insincere, attempt to confuse the citizens of highsec.

From the Code;

"Q. HA HA I am mining ice right now, you can't stop me!

As Supreme Protector, some may expect me to doggedly enforce the rules at all times against all offenders. This is a misperception of my role. Aside from those who have purchased indulgences, I will bump whomever I choose, whenever I choose. Your mining operations are entirely at my mercy. If I feel like stopping you from mining, I will; if not, I won't."

This specific discussion of bumping has been expanded in later documents by James 315 to cover all New Order activities including ganking of both mining ships, freighters and yes, rookie ships and shuttles.

The Agents in Uedama just haven't got around to you yet. Your turn, like all bot aspirants, will come. It will just be when WE choose, not you.

Highsec is worth fighting for.

By choosing to mine in New Order systems, highsec miners have agreed to follow the New Halaima Code of Conduct.  www.minerbumping.com

Thank you sir for correcting my misunderstanding, it appears I have simply fallen victim to my own lack of patience.
I knew the fine agents and knights of CODE would not forsake your charge simply because I was in a rookie ship with no fit at all.
I must confess I was a bit distressed to hear that my ship was exempt from the CODE, and a touch bit ashamed that I was in fact tempted to believe it. I don't think my belief was unfounded however given the vast amount of CODE enforcement I witness but seemed to be exempt from; however, I now know that was simply not the case.

Your wise council of patience has been well received..
I offer my heartfelt apologies for my lack of patience and my deep gratitude that you have taken the time to enlighten me on this matter.

I believe I will invite more members of the Sangha into the system as well in the near future so that they too may benefit from the fine agents of CODE in the cultivation of patience.

Not even the best fisherman expects to catch every fish.

Even CODE has limitations. After all, they are only men.

The ultimate failure of Veers and me in the "No Newbro Left Behind" initiative taught me that.

Very true words and until the agent saw fit to enlighten me that my concerns were simply due to a lack of patience I might have held the opinion that it was the loss of their ships without any hope of reward might have stayed their hand. I could, before I was advised to the contrary, think of no compelling reason why someone would fail to catch a fish that had placed itself willingly in their net unless they had a fear of the fish that grew from attachment to the net itself. Of course, this thinking is misguided.

Thankfully for my edification and the promotion of my practice of patience I received wise and sound council and now see that my understanding of the CODE was imperfect. In the meanwhile, I will simply continue to circle the gate 9m from multiple CODE agents in anticipation of my time when they decide it has come as I have done for the last few hours. They are awfully busy after all, sitting there must be very taxing.

"Why do you not try to catch me?", cried the sardine to the fleet of whaling ships.

Yes, friend, your shameless display of bot-aspirancy is terrible and I strongly urge you to repent your sins. However, in Uedama there are bigger fish to fry if you catch my driftwood. You see Highsec is rich with opportunities to create content and large amounts of it parade through Uedama everyday with some of Highsec's worst offenders at the helm.

Meditate on that. Blink
