Zoom failure on PI in station, solar system map generally

I hope someone can help with this, it's driving me mad. I have an Elantech touchpad, which may be the issue, but I have turned all its "advanced" features off and no joy. On looking at a planet whilst in station for PI, the zoom keys simply do nothing. If I undock, they zoom as intended. Dock again, and frozen again.

I am also unable to get a zoom reaction from the solar system map. This means I can't use probes effectively so this is a real issue. This problem seems persistent on the solar system map, I've tried touchpad combinations but they're no help. I'm going to try a normal mouse soon to see if that will help. I can spin etc the map as you might expect, but two button zooming does nothing either.

One possible clue - on one of the Eve settings options it suggests I have a left mouse button and a middle mouse button. So far as I know, I have just left and right and right clicks seem to work. I can't scroll up and down when in Eve using a gesture on the touchpad as I can in Windows 7 windows (I run Full Screen). So I do wonder if the Elantech drivers just aren't talking to the game right.

I suspect that there's some quirk with the touchpad drivers (it's an Asus laptop btw) but I've never seen this type of post answered here. Why would a touchpad prevent the keyboard shortcuts from working? Why does going into space enable them (or some of them)? Very, very annoying. I have already cleared my cache.

Any help greatly appreciated.

So, I got a USB mouse and plugged it in and everything worked absolutely fine. It's some issue with the touchpad but no idea what. Has anyone got any suggestions? It just seems like even the most basic touchpad functions that work in Windows don't translate into Eve, and the keyboard shortcuts get messed up to boot.

At the risk of appearing to be talking to myself, I have finally managed to figure this out. I saw some references to an Elantech Touchpad driver that seemed later than mine, but thought this was for a different sort of pad. Both the Windows driver update tool and the Asus website thought I had the most current version of the driver.

However, as it turns out, if you search on the Asus support site for "touchpad" rather than letting it auto-search based on your model of laptop, you suddently get a list of 40+ different drivers to pick from, some of which were more recent than mine. As I had nowhere left to go at this point I grabbed the most recent version and tried installing it.

Bingo. Everything zooms as it should, using the multi-touch gestures on the touchpad. The driver I had was clearly seriously behind the times, and yet it took a manual driver install to cure it. The moral of this story being don't assume that the manufacturer update sites are current - dig deeper.
