Why does compressed null ore sell for less then it's refined product ?

Just came back after a few year break and see that mineral compression has changed so I started redoing my spreadsheets but either my numbers are off (quite possible but they line up with IPH so eh) but I would have thought the two product would be at least be comparable other wise you could just buy the compressed , refine it and sell the minerals in jita. Crokite for example I have it at compressed @ 405k a block but refined it's closer is closer to 626k for the same amount.

How are you getting 626k worth of minerals out of it? Perfect refine puts it at ~555k of minerals yielded versus ~465k for the block itself.

User error on my part , 626 was the full mineral price which is my own derp , at 75% refine it's closer to the 470k after refine but that is still higher then the compressed blocks which sell for 465k / bo of 404 and yield the same thing , I would have thought compression would make it more valuable not less then just straight up refining it.

Crokite is rich in Tritanium and Nocxium. There's generally an overflow of these minerals. Also, anomaly composition is a thing. There's a lot of excess Crokite that gets shipped out.

Compressed ore is also a lot smaller than minerals, so for hauling purposes it makes sense to ship it out compressed rather than refine it. The shipping cost usually counterbalance the lost isk from refining.

also, there are 4 distinct base refine rates to deal with

50% - high sec station
52% - high sec POS
54% - lowsec/null sec POS
60% - Minnie T3 null sec outpost

The Ore has pretty much leveled out at the most common of those rates. Pick a lower refine rate and you pay a premium for you minerals, pick a higher refine rate and you get a deal on your minerals
