Player bounties overhaul

So I just read this thread
https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=463727&find=unread

I made a comment on how to make bounties relevant.
Some sort of jail time.
Then I realized that to do this you actually had to have some sort of capture mechanism.
Like a pod capture module or something.

Here is the deal.
If the bounty hunter manage to capture the pod with the module, and manage to fly safely back
to a concord/npc faction station with the other players pod.
Then part of the amount is paid out to the bounty hunter and part is set as expenses to incarserate the pilot at said station.

How much isk for a set amount of time in jail is a balancing question.
Yet claiming your own bounty reward isn't so fun if you have to wait for a jail timer to tick down.
This would make bounty hunting viable too, as it isn't enough to just blow people up,
you need to capture them and haul their ass back to the authorities.

Anyone have any opinions on this?

You must be on the "lead-based paint chip" diet to think that a game mechanic that prevents people from playing the game sounds like good game design.

Anyway, flagged for trolling, general idiocy, and redundancy.

Well you must just be a negative person I guess.

Anyways flagged for being rude and flagging me without a valid reason.

As for the general critique of doling out time punishments.
The point is that if we are to have bounty hunting then there must be some sort of way to stop it being abused.

Hence it must hurt the one being hunted more than it pays to collect ones own reward with say an alt.

This is the general principle that must not be broken.
Everything else is just fluff, including the jail time I set up as a possible way to punish.
We might have a bail out system from the time set up.
You pay the isk that they have posted for your timer and you are free.
Then suddenly you are not trapped unless you are poor.
A bummer for the poor though.
But I guess you shouldn't have ticked off people to get a bounty and put yourself in a situation to get caught if you where poor.
After all you are still protected from being captured if you are unflagged in hisec.

Another possible exploit is having the person who captured you hold on to you forever.
This could me mitigated by say having a time limit for delivering the captured to a station.
Before the capsuleer captured manages to override the capture mod or either flee or selfdestruct.
This should be up to the one captured I guess.

Having a viable "bounty hunting" mechanic might be a nice little novelty.

Nobody, least of all CCP, is interested in a trivially abusable mechanic that actually prevents people from playing the game, especially not for the sake of a novelty feature.

This isn't an "idea", this is a whine thread masquerading as an idea.

But he's right.

This is a game we are all paying to play. Why would anyone continue to pay to play a game that, thanks to this mechanic, they were no-longer able to play?

I know that the bounty system needs some serious work, but this isn't the way to go about it.

As has been said before, this idea as it stands would be highly abusable.

I can already see people taking said pod and just dropping it off in some wormhole for the lulz. Can't fit scanning gear on a pod.

And for this to even work at all, you would need to disable self-destruct for the pod. That poor schmuck dropped off in the wormhole is now stuck forever unless the marooned pilot can get someone to kill their pod.

Yeah, no thanks.

as witrh other jail ideas, no. Its a conceptually bad idea.

The bounty system will never be as romantic as you want it to be as long as capsuleers are immortal.

So new players?
And you can put a bounty on anyone.

So change bounties so they can only be put on people who are evil?

Evil is subjective and the game has no understanding of the word. Somone bumping you before a gank is completely fine as far as the game is concerned, but its widely considered evil and worth placing a bounty to some people.

He might be right, but I still don't entertain negative or disrespectful people.

I can see people in general being against the idea of a jail and I accept that as long as they don't add insults.

Interesting point about the wormhole.
I've covered the self-destruct part btw, in a post further down.

Yeah I see your point about old people griefing the new here.

To claim that I must accept abuse just because I want a discussion is ridiculous.
I accepted everyone elses opinions because they where not rude.

I can see now that no matter how many stop gaps one tries to enter either
the punishment becomes too steep for a game or there is some exploit to be had.
Oh well...
Thx the rest of you guys not being rude about it! :)

Just scrap the bounty system in its entirety and forget about it. A player bounty system that works is simply impossible. The alt culture in EVE ruins any and all attempts to make that system meaningful. It's a total joke and any attempt to make the system have impact would only lead to abuse of it, which would make things worse, not better. Just accept that it's undoable. This is not the bounty hunting game you're looking for.

What would be fun instead, that if you managed to recover the body of the said bounty person an general in turn it into Concord (of what ever have you) you get a bonus from the bounty that you have already received? :)

A game mechanic that let you lose control over your character (getting captured in your idea) is never good. Way to much to exploit and simply boring for the victim.

In your example, i could just warp to a savespot with the captured pod and go afk, just "for the lulz". Stealing you the playtime you paid for.

So under this proposal, I could have a highsec industrial Corp that is in competition with someone else.

Then, I could bounty them, bring my own pvp character in to capture them, making it not possible for them to play the game; and get rewarded with the return of some of my own bounty payment?

Sounds awesome. Easy way to remove competition cheaply.
