Given the fact that you can spend way more money for some Flight sim equipment the price for an Oculus Rift is not really expensive.

Not comparable, though, because that's a niche product.

VRsets are more an interface to a new medium.

Hi,
yes i know, i just wanted to make the point that when you do something with passion the price is just secondary.

Otoh, i can't even see them making money with the OR given the development cost, but that's just me.

You said it's a interface to a new medium and tbh i'm quite curious about that.
I'm quite sure that the OR will open a totally new world to gaming within the next few years

Ah I see and agree. :)
Not sure about the devcosts, tbh, though I don't have one.

VR is a medium. It'll allow completely new ways of communication and will make the world even smaller (as every new medium did, ever). With Virtual Reality you can sit next to your friend in China ... seeing him holding a gun at your head telling you to pay ransom, or he'll send you back to the clonevat.

You can teach children in nigeria.
Hunters from central africa can teach you how to... well... hunt.
You can join swinger parties from your bedroom.
ACTUALLY LIVE - let that sink in for a minute - live news!

It's the ultimate remote viewing experience for the masses.

Telegraphy/telephone.
Radio.
TV.
Internet.
Virtual Reality.

Welcome to the golden age ... we'll all die soon.

That ringing in your ears you're experiencing right now is the last gasping breathe of a dying inner ear as it got thoroughly PULVERISED by the point roaring over your head at supersonic speeds. - Tippia

Not going to buy it if it's on Facebook.
Not gonna buy it if it's on Steam.
Not gonna buy it if it's monthly subscription.
Why do I have to put credit card in if it's free to play?

You guys should get with the times already.

Ghost facebook account, yeah sure.
Steam installs software that monitors processes running on my PC other than the games I might download from them; that's a deal breaker right there.
If it's sub I'd make the choice depending on how good it is.
If you're giving your details to pay before paying read the small print, they will probably take payment after a set period of time. Getting "stung" by that is your own damn fault.

If brute force isn't working, you're just not using enough.

I heard the VIVE is better in every way.

Also looks more expensive and even sillier: it boasts 360ยบ full room movement sensors to "get up, walk around and explore your virtual space"... right until you walk into furniture or a wall. Roll

I have a hunch that Microsoft's augmented reality haves better potential; certainly does for professional enviroments, and probably too as an entertainment tool.

Time will tell. The VR 2.0 train is not one I will board anytime soon since my eyes are absolutely incompatible with VR hardware. Also, in a related note, I want to see how do VR headsets interact with presbyopia, that new friend in the life of the age groups who can pocket 600 $ for new toys...

it has a camera in the front that provides outlines of objects as overlays on your game, called chaperone. It's an objectively better provision than rift that you probably won't see in the rift until next year.

Excuse me. Until rift 2, which if the release cadence is more like consoles, will probably not even be next year.

Because it's a passive aggression enabler.

I'm in the hype ship but the price tag is offputing to say the least. I say, let's wait for reviews before going 600 bucks into the red.

I mean, we can run SC with Oculus right? Right?

But eh, Am I the only one who doesn't post every crap I like/dislike Do/Don't into facebook? Anyone here on the same boat?

It sucks that everything can be linked into facebook or needs FB nowadays, Am I the only one who thinks this sucks?
