I keep getting jumped by npc Circadean Seekers at random locations, sometimes even right as I undock from a station. I mostly mine so don't have the combat skills/ships to kill them quickly. At one point I managed to take down 2, but then 3 more warped in. As a miner, I can handle most rats fine, but even in a tanked procurer they pose a threat.

What is causing this? Is there a way to stop this?

Wait, so you shoot a faction and then find it weird they come after you.

You shot it, you pay the consequences. Actions matter

This thread is a goldmine.

Seekers following people around, stealing corpses from under a gankers nose, shooting POS ...

Hahahaha, 10/10, finally interesting PvE. If only drifter incursions weren't restricted to sites.

Dungeons are so 2000...

Hah, I did this too. Just came back to eve, was doing my usual empire stuff to get the hang of basic mechanics was flying a Prophecy around doing frostline sites, and when I saw these at a gate I thought it should be enough for 5 little cruisers, even if they were seekers.

I attack and it takes a LONG time to take out the cruiser. So I take out the cruiser and start taking out his buddies, and I notice my tank is starting to have a hard time so I decide to bug out. As I warp out I notice that there were 30 seekers that just weren't showing because my overview was still fisked.

So yea, I decided that the best way of dealing with them was to leave them alone. Reading this thread, I'm glad I came to that conclusion so quickly after returning.

My choice of pronouns is based on your avatar. Even if I know what is behind the avatar.

umm..... huh? Wait what? Huh? err... uhhh.... what?

I am in the Eve forums and someone is telling someone else to ask questions first and shoot later? You have me very confused. I could have sworn that the general guidelines in Eve were that if it moves shoot it and if it doesn't move shoot it to see if it moves.

Oh no... that IS the general rule.

But there is another rule connected to that one;
"When you start struggling against one hostile and see others on the horizon... bring in more guns. Failing that, take names and GTFO."

They spawn in HiSec too, at least as high as 0.9. They'll warp from belt to belt, to jump gates, to stations, etc.
I've found them to be completely harmless unless you shoot at them.

Have you tried speaking poorly of their mother's or hitting on their girlfriends at parties?

To be fair, they are not officially a faction yet (the Drifters and their little friends, that is.) But they are going to be, fairly soon.

Oh, they ARE a faction, but the standings loss from shooting them does not show up in your character sheet, so you can't keep track of it.

They also have the advanced AI that follows you into warp, applies jamming, and possibly warp scrambles.

CCP seems to be doing a lore arc development with them, where they become more and more aggressive and bigger ships with better weapons keep being introduced.

So, for now, they're acting like NRDS (they don't shoot neutrals = people who haven't shot them in the past), but it's likely they'll switch to full aggro as the lore progresses.

Oh I know they follow you around and scram etc. I also know they'll spawn Drifters to one-shot you-- I witnessed that happen to a person in a fleet I was in last month. He had an entosis link in his cargo, flew by some Seekers and BAM, Drifters were on him like white on rice. Was extremely funny. Oh yes folks -- if you have an entosis link on you, either fitted or in your cargo bay (it doesn't matter) DO NOT go near the Seekers. They do not like that at all.

But anyway, I didn't know the actual faction had been implemented yet. At EVE Vegas, plans were unveiled for there to be a formal faction.

As for a lore arc, well yeah. Blink

I'm guessing about the faction, but it makes more sense for CCP to use the existing faction standings system to let the AI make aggression decisions, than for CCP to implement some new decision tracking system that still results in "NPCs shoot at those who have attacked them in the past."

Who unveiled the plans at EVE Vegas? CCP Falcon?

No, there was a small, not very well publicized roundtable about the future of PvE, hosted by CCP Affinity. Here's a writeup of the discussion from TMC:

https://www.themittani.com/features/pve-round-table-big-changes-and-big-ideas-ahead

Quote:
The Drifters have captured the imagination and curiosity of New Eden. Whether they are the long awaited return of the Jovians, cousins of the Sleepers, or even Terrans, there is no shortage of speculation regarding their origin. CCP Affinity stated that the storyline of the Drifters is ongoing, and that more about their goals and origins would be revealed at their story advanced. In response to a player question CCP Affinity also said the Drifters would likely not be unrelentingly hostile forever, and that as players learn more about them it might become possible to earn positive standings.

This bit, and then the newly-released Chronicle with its huge lore dump, had me naturally assuming that a formal faction is on its way at some point.

Are you sure it was the entosis links?

Perhaps both the Drifters and Circadian are looking for artifacts belonging to the Black Monoliths.
