I post this from a tactical crouch, because I know this has been raised in the forums more than once, but... I haven't been able to find a solution or straight answer.

What's going on with the character portraits? I re-did mine, and it doesn't show on Eve Gate or the forums. It does show in my game, but when I try to use "capture portrait" it just gives me the old one.

I've deleted my cache. Problem persists.

Also I am seeing people with blank portraits in-game and in-forum/Gate. Is all this just "something that happens" from time to time?

Time...

Wait 24 - 48 hours for the forums etc. to process your new portrait.

Processing portraits is now faster (CCP posted about this once-upon-a-time, either defensively, or boastfully), however, the client and such still cache the portraits.

In EVEmon one can click on the portrait to reload it, but it tends then to be cached for another day (yes, I've repeatedly changed one alt, and I'm STILL not satisfied).

Browsers cache stuff also. Not sure if you need to purge the cache in the browser or anything else that is using the old picture.

Your new portrait will be visible ingame to you instantly (though only in pre-rendered version).

Servers usually take 1-2 hours to render it, after which it will be visible to everyone ingame, on forums, etc.

For the forums try a hard-refresh (ctrl+r) if it's not showing up yet.

Likewise ingame it might be delayed slightly due to people's caches.

Though I have heard a few people complain this past week that portraits don't seem to be updating properly across all platforms, so I dunno if that's related and/or been fixed or not.

Something funky is going on. I've already tried what's been suggested (been waiting around two days at this point), including deletion of cache both in-game and out, hard refreshes, and deletion of browser image cache.

As I said, when I right-click on the portrait in-game, and select "capture portrait" (which one assumes does so from the server), my old avatar image appears in my capture folder-- not the new one I see in my client.

Thanks for the feedback.

Yeah. ^^

Usually 1-2 hours in my experience, rarely longer (depending on how many people are updating portraits I guess).

My pet peeve has always been that in the local (pre-rendered) version you can see your portrait with the physically simulated hair effect, but it's removed post-render. My little Banana has a thread up for a long while now suggesting the render process keep the physically simulated hair appearance (come give her a like + bump!). So far no dice, though the suggestion has received strong support even from bald characters. Lol

Though I like to think everytime there's a portrait bug like currently that it's the Devs hard at work trying to implement the suggestion. ( LolRollBig smile )

I have a face in game (atleast that I can see) but have not yet been given one here. I'm currently playing EVE via Steam but back when I played on a Trial Account the face of that character showed up instantly. Not sure if it's a related issue or not though.

Finally someone. I didn't want to be the one to make this thread.

The fastest non-resculpted portrait rerendering I've measured last year was 45ish minutes.
Using a resculpt makes the servers rerender it instantly, just like new players' portraits.

I already made three pics in the last week, but they're not being rendered at all.

It ekther means people are creating new portraits in masses or it stopped working completely...

Another thing worth noting is that I have seen a few blank faces ( meaning silhouettes only ) on the forums in the past few days which is something that I've not seen in a while. I'm not sure if it is just due to lots of new characters being created around the holidays or lots of time off at CCP ( like everwhere else around the holidays ) or what. But if you are still not seeing your updated picture 2 days later then maybe it's time to file a ticket on this.

Sounds like a legit issue. I have just submitted the ticket.

There do seem to be some issues with the portrait server side renders.

Makes you wonder if it's all the new Serpentis/Festive clothing released that people are playing with

This has happened before, and the server is currently not rendering any changes.

Someone in rookie channel just stated his avatar changed completely without having touched it. People in channel went "pff, who cares" but new players aren't used to the "your avatar is meaningless" concept. CCP is going to have to step up with nonsense like this, the old "if we stay quiet it might go away" might have worked a few years ago when EVE was still niche but they wanted more mainstream players and those expect flawless and polished game play or at the very least being kept up to date on possible issues. Come to think of it, so do the rest of the players.

Most people are clueless about the fact that avatars and portraits have significant social impact, actually.

If that wasn't the case, I wouldn't do what I'm doing.

What? I spent hours on my portrait!

Actually people do recognize you by your avatar, both in forums and in game. But until WIS, it's not nearly as fun as other games.

My choice of pronouns is based on your avatar. Even if I know what is behind the avatar.

Portraits are important. They are like an abstracted psychological test.

It appears mine has finally updated. Haven't heard back on my support ticket. Maybe it just "takes four days now"?
