Myrmidon and Level4's ??

I read the tutorials and scan the forums and the internet most of the time before I make any change of direction and this time was no different.

I wanted to try a Lvl4 mission for the first time and some directed me to the Myrmidon to accomplish this. I didn't succeed. LOL!

I made it through the first gate after fighting for about an hour. I attempting the second group three times before I knew I couldn't win or couldn't win unless I wanted to take 4 (?) hours of destroying one ship at a time and retreating. Repeat cycle. {I already lost a Deimos in this same mission. Sniff sniff.]

I have a decent skill set with all drones maxed out save the heavies and the only other thing I don't have is advanced hybrid guns. Has anyone actually won a tough level 4 mission in a Myrmidon?

I thank you all now for your polite and instructive replies. Merry Christmas!

Medium armor reppers, even with the ship bonus, are not really sufficient. Also, and more importantly, you cant get enough dps with only 4 sentry drones. Really just train Gallente BS and fly a Domi.

Presumably you already have sufficient armor tanking skills. And it sounds like you already have sentry drones. Just put medium guns on the Domi until you have trained large guns. Even tech I large guns are ok.

You will be fine for level IVs in a level 4 sp Domi with tech I large guns or tech II medium guns. As long as you have sentries you will do enough dps, have enough buffer, and be able to tech I even large armor rep your way to completion.

edit : btw I see you are in FW. You will want to carry some ecm drones to try to shake a squid tackler and warp out if you have to. Even in high sec you will get jumped, and you cannot count on the npc faction navy to save you.

second edit: with perfect skills and some faction or deadspace fittings you could run level 4s. But it really makes no sense because you will take longer doing it that way than just flying a tech I domi. It would be the equivalent of guys that get besotted with their stupid passive drakes and run level 4s in them. It will take too long and is not the way to make isk. Not that level 4s anyway are a good way to make isk. Level 4s are really just a way for people that have limited or interruptable play time to do something before the inevitable wife aggro or whatever.

The only way to do it with a high rate of survival would be to use an MJD with sentries to essentially range tank. Very inefficient though.

myrm has one of the best passive tanks in game, and should easily be able to meet lv4 tanking reqs with an armor tank and the active tank bonus. and either way I'd guess you can throw either a 10mn or 100mn ab on, moving at speed reduces incoming damage by a good portion.

that said either way I'm not sure what kind of DPS you can put out after dedicating most slots to tank. It seems to me that a gila might be a better choice for lv4s. Or just skip the myrm and jump up to the dominix. the extra drone bay and bandwidth not to mention the nice tracking/optimal bonus are a nice jump up.

A little more advice. Train the large micro jump drive, fit one and a sensor booster, and all level 4s become snooze fests. As long as you are flying a BS with long range guns or sentries or cruises you will probably never even hit the button for a shield or armor repper as you snipe every rat before it even damages you. CCP really has made level 4s too easy. They used to be more of an achievement to get into.

As for the bounty they really mean next to nothing. You will discover that some people have the opposite reaction to you for posts on these boards. This bounty is the remnant of a neckbeard nerd lord who didn't like my corpie cheering on the drake nerf or HM nerf of a few years ago. So consequently I wear this bounty with pride. And I imagine the idiot continuing to lament the demise of his easy Drake. And pondering whether it was a worthwhile expenditure.Lol

It's funny that you should mention bounties. I used to mostly paint a pilot orange if their bounty was high till yesterday. Some ashat placed a small bounty on me for no reason. So I finally read up on bounties.

There are many good pilots with bounties on them so I will no longer paint them bad for that reason alone. I still paint the pirates red so I can get notified when they are in my system. I am still on the lower end of the pecking order.

Bounties are pointless, useless, and for those who throw isk away because it is burning a hole in their wallet. Nothing more.

Two medium reps, reactive hardener, appropriate resists profile for the other two slots and a dda. Get a nice implant that increases repair about and/or capacitor recharge. 250mm t2 rails worked well enough to snipe with iridium and antimatter in close to keep aggro off your drones. Had a drone navigation computer in the mid as well. It was an old fit. Hopefully it still works. Probably better, now that repair amounts were buffed. 2x ogre, 2x Hamm, x1 hob. Change up to berserker; valk, warrior for angel missions. You can make her cap stable easy. Meta 4 railgun will work fine too, with that ammo. Will work until you can use the domi with sentries. Myrm is AB fit of course. Keep your traversal up.

So clearly the tank is fine, or else he wouldn't have sat there tanking the mission killing too slowly.

You wont squeeze enough DPS out of that thing to make it worthwhile. It can be done but the juice is not worth the squeeze.

Train a Domi you already have most of the skills, drones, armor tank. And while the domi is not the most effective ship in every mission It will give you a taste of lvl 4s

But if I had to do lvl 4s in a battle cruiser or cruiser I would use a Gila or navy vexor.

Actually, the Myrm does okay dps if you can keep the ogres in place. The full flight of mediums do just as good when there are few battleships. A great ship to learn the 4's in before you throw a battleship away with a noob mistake.

You can even throw a nano-pump in if you t2 the cap rigs.

Battlecruisers are in a tricky spot for missions. Faction, pirate, and t2 and t3 cruisers are generally superior to t1 battlecruisers, and the t2 battlecruisers are a very specialised goal, that are again often rejected in favour of the t3 cruisers.

Either skill across to the Ishtar or gila, or skill up to the dominix.

There are a few things people overlook when they give recommendations:
Isk and SP.

Both are high and often unavailable to a noob. The myrm is somewhat of a realistic short term goal. Many of you seem to forget just how long it takes to jump in a t2/t3 or tech2 sentries.
