High Sec Safari

I want to set up a High Sec Gank Safari event for some of my friends to start 2016 with a bang. The idea is simple: go to a popular Mission hub in High Sec or travel route and gank the living **** of anything. I'll be funding the whole thing myself ( 1bil~ ) so this is more of a gank for fun than for profit type of thing. That said, if we could break even or make a profit it would be fantastic, because that would allow similar events to happen more often for us. We should be able to bring 10 combat pilots to the grid.

That said, I haven't done any sort of High sec ganking in my Eve career so I'm absolutely lost on how to set it all up. I'm aware of things like CONCORD response time and the popular ships used ( Thrasher, Catalyst, Tornado, Talos ) but I have no clue how many of those ships and in what combination is necessary to take down a target.

I'm mostly interested in ganking Marauders because after doing a quick scanning around with my alt I found bling fits to be quite common and I figured that if I understand how to successfully gank them, then killing any Faction Battleship would be easy since they can't bastion and rep for over 1500 a second.

You're going to need a bigger budget if you only have 10 pilots unless your ganks are all profitable. Considering you don't know what you are doing it's unlikely they will all be profitable.

Look here for what it takes to gank a marauder. Not all of them are ganks, but if you have any common sense, you should be able to figure out what's what.

Generally speaking the best way to kill a marauder is to alpha it before it has an opportunity to use it's reps. With 10 pilots that pretty much means Tornados.

Choose any Level 4 SoE hub and the surrounding systems, they're filled to the brim with tasty pinatas. Each hub also has it's own resident gankers (of course) so you may be able to get some of them to lend you a hand.

If you're ganking on gates, you're going to need to learn about resetting CONCORD if you plan to gank on the same gate multiple times. Your best bet is to gank them in their missions though, as the NPCs they're fighting will add to the overall DPS they are taking, it also keeps CONCORD tucked away nice and snug if you want to go again in the same system. Of course, you'll also need a scanner alt for this who can grab a warpin for your fleet.

Good luck, and please record it, I'm sure it would make for some interesting viewing.

Not so much anymore. The last time they changed the AI, the rats started targeting ships if they land on grid after the first ship. So the gankers will pretty much get aggro everytime now.

Damn, that's a shame.

I came here hoping for a story about awoxing, but this is a good alternative. Looks like you've got the numbers. If you bring some enthusiasm and get a little help, you'll do great things.

Shameless plug: Get in the Belligerent Undesirables channel in game. There are some seasoned gankers there who can help you with a more competent start, and you might even recruit a few extra guns. Then when you pull it off, post those killmails so we can high five you guys.

Be aware the Sisters epic arc start system (which is a l4 mission hub IIRC) is off limits to ganky fun last time I checked. The GM's are pretty strict on enforcing this as tons of newbs infest said system.

Having said that, Lanngisi over near Hek/Rens is crawling with feral blinged out mission bears in their incredibly pimped out mission marauders. I once saw one drop over 5 billion in loots after the gank.

However, you will have some competition, as Mad Drunken Russians in 40+ Thrasher gangs roam the area, looking for mission bears to hunt.

Everything in EVE is a trap.

And if it isn't, it's your job to make it a trap...:)

Took me awhile to get back to this, busy week. Let's get back in to it.

Thanks. I had no idea you could filter zKillboard like that.

I'm starting to think that I wont be able to pull off gank on Marauders. Most ganks seems to have up to 10~12 Destroyes with 2~3 Attack Battlecruiser support. Sure we could throw 10 talos/nados at something, but there goes the budget and if we don't succeed for whatever reason then the event is over.

I'm giving up on the Marauders at the moment. The T2 Resists, Bastion and Bonus Rep just makes it a bit too difficult for a first-time-wanna-be-ganker.

Maybe it's better for me to start with T1/Faction/Pirate Battleships and slowly move up as I learn. I've seen some very bling Rattles, Machs and other T1 Battleships in the last few days.

If I'm ganking only with Destroyers, does that mean that I can only do it in a mission pocket? I haven't tested yet, but I assume gateguns will destroy them in a few seconds, making it really hard to pull off on a gate.

Yeah destroyers on gates doesn't work that well, it can be done but is usually limited to situations where they are autopiloting or sitting idle. I guess in theory you could try to bump them as they align.
You can look at my catalyst losses for a proper gate fit, smaller guns with larger tank sems dumb but you net out with more dps as mine survives about 10 ticks whereas a pure gank fit only last about 2-3.
Consider using a cruiser to shoot first to take the gate gun's aggro then the next tick shoot with the catalysts. That way you can use the pure gank fits. Still doesn't solve the problem of range if they are not autopiloting or sitting idle.

Maybe you should target T3s that are bling fit, if you find some that are mission fit and leave a big resist hole that can make it only require a few Nados, T1 cruisers or possibly could be done with destroyers under ideal conditions.

What Loyd said. Target a few T3s to start with to get your eye in. 2/3 nados max should do it depending if pre scanned and active tanked. Always a few in mission hubs. You can just as easily grab them on the undock, paired up with a nimble loot snatcher. Spent a few months doing it when Nados first appeared and made quite a bit.
