Safe undock distance

Thought the answers to this question would help the new players:

What is the new distance from station to establish a safe undock point? I'm over 8.1K Km and still read station traffic coming and going.

To buck the popular trend, I began to Rage Start instead of Rage Quit.

...and every time I get another piece of Carbon, I know exactly what CCP is getting this Christmas.

It depends, contrary to popular belief grid-fu still exists, it's just much harder to manipulate now, so the grid can be stretched past the theoretical grid size. You just have to keep going until everything disappears.

I'm mostly still using the same instas. Couldn't think of a sufficiently compelling reason to put in the effort for off-grid ones.

I'm in the same boat, for some of the hub systems where people might actually be sitting in range of your insta, I just setup a few more at multiple distances.

Well, anything bigger then 500 km is strictly safe as you are far from any viable harm. Just cause the new grid size is huge doesnt mean you must be off grid to be safe.

The only issue is that a hunter can swe you and have his own tactical bookmarks with much more ease to catch you as you stay on grid for ages.

Generally I've found that hunters already have a series of insta undocks specifically to catch people when they make insta undocks. So if someone has been hanging at the station for a long time watching you run your inty down the line, watch them. And start dropping bms every 500k or so. If their range suddenly starts going down consider warping out. Then just continue from your last bm drop. ctrl-n is your friend.

So yea. If you always fly in a cloaky ship, then your old insta-undocks will be fine. If not. then hunters will note what distance you stop at, and when you leave go put a bm at the same distance. Next time that you try to use that insta-they will be right behind you, or maybe waiting for you. Heck, they don't even need to do that. They could just sit on the same vector in a disco BS.

So it all depends on how cut throat your enemies are. If they suck, give up easily, or only attack when you are at war, and you live in high sec, maybe not so important.

My choice of pronouns is based on your avatar. Even if I know what is behind the avatar.

I'll add that I've made dozens of jumps out of jita 4-4 with billions in cargo using my old bookmarks without being so much as yellowboxed. It might be a concern for freighters, as an outside chance. I tend to cloaky-MWD anything else.

4-4 had a moon inline with the undock so it is easy to make bookmarks. Mine are a few grids over easily even with the change.

This is really easy to answer: You move, until you're off grid. There you start bookmarking.

Common sense. Nowadays the grid's just ... bigger.
