New ship ideas

I think we need to see a new mining ship which can fit more than 2 high slots and And hold more Ore cargo.. a mid range ship..

The Mackinaw is good but we need to a bigger ship...

Same kind of design...

I also think a ship which can split in half would be a great design for attacking and defending... It would mirror your controls with the main ship and actor as a slave ship..

And what about MINES why can't you drop MINES to protect you??

I am surprised nobody has asked for this yet?

Came looking for new ideas. Found none. Nor are the old, tired ideas here at all developed.

Above all, dear OP, you must answer the question, "why do we need these things?"

CCP should add more NPC 0.0 space to open it up and liven things up: the Stepping Stones project.

Why do we need that, precisely?

So... Basically a better mackinaw? Just because? Also, mines were already tried, they lagged the servers horribly and were removed. 2 ship idea... Like a worm or gila?

This is a signature.

It has a 25m signature.

No it's not a cosmic signature.

Probably.

Btw my corp's recruiting.

Welcome to EVE. The 5 billion answer is, we already had those and they made our hamsters cry for daze. Oh and if you want a bigger mining boat, fly a Rokh.

Eve Minions is recruiting.

This is the law of ship progression!

If you want more yield than a mack, fly a hulk. If you want more tank, fly a skiff. You don't get all three in one.

Here is an idea, when you actually have an idea, sit down and ask yourself the following questions.

1. Was it in the game before (example, mines)?
2. Has the idea been discussed before—there is a search function, use it.
3. Once you pass 1 and 2, try to figure out how you could abuse it.

Once you get past that then consider posting.

Another link about mines, it was discussed just a couple of months ago...which you'd know if you did step 2.

So many freaking *beeping* people have asked for this already...

INB4L because lack of information.

What we really need is CONCORD to guard the miners because the miner is usually too drunk to dock his ship in the end of the day.

I'll give you that the OP's idea is bad.

I'm only here because who gives a flying **** why we need them!!!

It's a damn video game... Perhaps we should be more worried about what's entertaining as opposed to what we "need".

If you expect someone to answer why do we need something, then you must answer the question of what within Eve do we need?
NOTHING... it's a video game...
It's not going to feed you, cloth you, protect you, pay you, hunt for you, or anything else that you ACTUALLY NEED..

You want to play a video game... You want to fly certain ships... Some may want new ships...

We're here to indulge, not survive.

Because you are not indroducing something into a vaccum. So whether it exists or not does matter within the context of the game itself.

Any competitive game has to consider how new things fit in to the overall ecosystem/balance of everything else. If you don't do this and/or willfilly ignore it you set yourself up for problems down the line (in terms of gameplay, balance, and precedence).
And this becomes especially acute when said new things effectively "cancel out" or render other forma of gameplay "ineffective."

"Because it would be cool" is fine but has to be taken with a VERY sobering grain of salt.

Howabout a mining battleship which can swap between mining mode or attack mode? You get a hefty ore bay, fitting choices like a combat battleship, huge defenses, and it doesn't mine quite as fast as a Mackinaw but you can make it do a lot of cool things to balance that out.

ORE mining battleship - more fitting versatility, less mining output!
ORE Faction Semi-Combat Mining Ships
Two new barges: frigate and battleship size (NOT MORE YIELD!!!)

I have made a few posts on such things in the past. You could tweak these designs a bit, take something off to replace with a big ore bay. Some of the important design and balancing concepts are:
1.) the use of missiles as a weapon system to balance offense power with mining output
2.) lower rate of mining than a barge (but may come very close!)
3.) full hull cost of a battleship, comes with the slots and CPU/powergrid of a true battleship
I usually give them just a meager cargohold because I like the power of the ship that can do full mining and can do full combat, with hefty defense either way. If you gave it a huge ore bay comparable to a mackinaw, it would need to be taken down a good chunk on mining and damage output in order to make up for the strong defenses.

Alternatively you could go with a mutant "destroyer"/industrial mining ship which has high offense or mining power and a huge ore bay but is paper thin on tank. Or a capital-sized mining ship--could use some type of siege module to swap between mining and shooting mode, have carrier-level defenses, and carry as much ore as a Rorqual.
